|
|
I was wondering if any one knew of any knew of any good swimming pools for lap swim. I'm not talking about any swimming pool, I've found a few but lap swiming is a god damn joke, its impossible to get any sort of decent work out with the ajummas walking or floating slowly from one end of the lane to the other.
I've been to the olympic swimming pool, and the swimming pool near noksapyong station. Both are pretty lame for work outs even at 6 am.
So if any one knows of any pools, or hell even some sort of team or club I could join, I promise I will touch you gingerly on the arm and maybe whisper some sweet nothings. |

On a side note, any pools have a 5 or 10 meter platform that I can dive off of? |

Hay guys.
Ten years in Korea, and I've tried and tried and tried to find lap pools to work out in. To date, I haven't found one. However, there are some options. If you join a class, you may be able to get your laps in, however, the Ajumma will always cause a problem, and it can be expensive. What my wife does is she buys these tickets in which she can swim at certain times, (usually late in the evening, or early in the morning) at a local gym. She says she gets a few laps in early Sunday mornings. The rest of the time, the lanes are clogged with bobbing and sometimes agressive Azuma. (They got angry with her because she can tumble roll at the end of her lap)
I did come across a great swimming pool in a hotel down in Daegu many years back. You can always try the hotels, but they can be expensive. However, perhaps you could arrange something with them. (Say you know Marine Boy) These pools (well the one I visited) were free of people, (from the 2m point) and had a ten meter diving board with a 10 meter deep end. Ahhh I had so much fun that day..
For me though, I gave up on the "normal" swimming pools, as I spent most of my time under the water avoiding being drowned by the Azuma.
Good luck! |

it's probably a bit far from you, but I just started swimming at the Suwon World Cup Sports Center, and when I've been going the last 2 days I've had lanes to myself. When I went Sat morning on the other hand it was Ajuma city.
I've been going after work and swimming basically between 5:45 and about 6:45.
I'm sure it all depends on the day and the time. I will not be going back Sat mornings, though will continue to go during the week after work. |

I like the Olympic pool. I just swim around the people walking. I've never seen more than 4 people in a lane. I swam for many years growing up, and 4 people to a lane is like driving on an empty freeway. I generally go between 1-4pm, an afternoon block of time when males are allowed to swim. |

Yeah a pool that doesn't have 98 Koreans just standing in the middle of the lap in their swim caps doing a lot of nothing. Tall order. |

if you are a halfway decent swimmer, you can forget it.
I did swim team 10 years, so i can get across the pool. Most places with "open swim" leave only 2 of the 6 lanes open since the other 4 are being used for lessons. And yes, the Ajummas. There is no pool etiquette here.
there is one pool up by the Hyatt, but ridiculously expensive and 80% of the cliente is over the age of 60. I had a little drama going on over the lane line since one lady couldn't swim CIRCLES around the pool with it in. Of course, I didn't like eating my own waves either. I worked something out with the pool manager where I'd put it in (and take it out), but the swim coach had a little hissy fit. Then he lost face. Then I decided he was just a douche. Stopped going there.
I'll wait until I'm back in the states where people can actually swim. |

Do naked women lay out near the pools just like in European countries? Yea, you could pay about $2 and go swimming in these huge (and really deep) public pools surrounded by nude women laying in green grass around shade trees. Germany is a riot of a time. |

Every pool I've been in, from public to fitness pools in five star seoul hotels, all look the same. Filled with Koreans mostly just standing in the water doing little more than bobbing up and down and sporting swim caps. They're even in lanes what I would interpret as clearly marked as for doing laps. |
