From what I've seen in other threads, it looks like we're allowed to discuss this here?

Anyway, I'd like to get a modded PS2 and catch up on some of the games I missed out on while I was in college.

I live in Daegu, but I usually make it into Seoul at least once every other month. So I have a couple of questions.

1) Where is the best place to go for this, and what's a ballpark estimate of how much the modded unit itself will cost?

2) If I get a modded PS2, will it also be a region-free dvd player afterwards?

3) What kind of selection of games do the places have, and how much are the games? I have some specific titles in mind: Final Fantasy X and XII, Devil May Cry 3, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, Zone of the Enders 2, etc. Nothing too obscure. Will I be able to find stuff like this with an English language option?

Opps...I thought you wanted to mod a ps2...if your looking to buy a modded unit just buy one off an expat...check seoul craigslist or Facebook market place for south korea... a modded Ps2 pops up every 2 weeks or so.

I just got my ps2 modded...I paid 40...quick process...I went to technomart (in gangbyeon) and most merchants refused to do it exscept some guy in a wheel chair in a vdieo game shop.

He installed an Infinity Mod Chip on mine...works for all games just fine. Tip of advice...buy some decent DVD-rs...I bought some crap "fusion" brand DVD-r and the games loaded pretty slow if they worked at all.....I went to emart, got some LG brand discs and the games run just like the original and load very fast. Make sure you burn them at 4x-8x speed...not 16x or 32x.

Going rate seems to be $35-$50....I'd aim for $40. Yongsan would have lots of vendors who'd do that sorta thing...I only went to technomart becuase it's closer.

Thanks for the advice. So once you have the DVD-Rs, do you just find the game files on bittorrent? And can you burn them to dvd, or do you have to mount them to the disc?

Yeah, bit torrent is good...and then you just burn them to disc...

Just make sure to buy decent discs....don't buy something third rate wrapped in a plastic bag like I did Laughing

Don't buy the Memosux, their brand is horrible.

Anyways, the modification would cost less than 50 bucks, much more less if you know how to solder. The mod would either come in a hardware type (chips) or software (swap disks). Online would probably be your best bet. Basic much of the information from the other replies got the gist of it.

I have a PS3. But it doesn't play PS2 games and it isn't region free for dvds or PS1 games. And I don't want to mod it.
