If you are reading/watching the Canadian news you will have heard about the chaos at the airport in Vancouver. Nothing can be done about the poor weather this time of year but Air Canada has been heavily criticized for their poor handling of the situation. Here is one example:

would like to thank Westjet for getting me home in time for the holidays from the Vancouver airport when Air Canada could have cared less. After my flight was cancelled monday morning at 6:30 I waited in line for 14 hours just to talk to somebody who could only put me on stand by and said good luck. They would not bring in any new flights to help start moving their customers, nor would the bump up the size of their planes so they could get their stand by customers out. Not only that but they only had 5 people rebooking their countless customers as the line almost ran the lengeth of the airport. They closed their rebooking desk to leave their customers to sleep in the line in the airport so they could keep their spot in line. I don't blame them for the weather but that was the worest custmer service I have ever had in my life. If you looked at the Air Canada side of the airport it was a huge mess, then if you looked at Westjet there were no lines they were moving people very fast even bringing in more planes to move more people.

I was on a one year work exchange in Australia and had accumulated 13 pieces of luggage, (souveniers and the like). With 6 passengers I believe I was well within my size and weight limits. Your comments ("how dare I have luggage") reflect the insensitivity I am talking about.
Again, I re-iterate, I was on cancelled flight AC030 in Vancouver December 21st. My husband and I and our four small children were headed for Toronto. While snow does cause cancellations of flights from time to time, Air Canada's handling of the situation was deplorable. I could understand when we sat in the waiting room for a three hour delay. I could even understand when we had to sit on the plane, on the tarmac for another SIX hours! I could even understand when we got to the de-icing and the pilot announced that our flight was now cancelled. What I cannot understand is why they told us to call the 1-800 number to re-book and why we were on hold with this number for FOUR hours. I cannot understand why we had to retreive our 13 pieces of luggage and couldn't leave them on the plane until it was able to take off. And I cannot understand why we had to find a space on the floor to sleep while other flights CONTINUED TO LAND. I cannot understand how they lost two pieces of my luggage when we DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE. Finally, I cannot understand why they had shortage of flight crew when there were nine cancellations. What I do understand is why Canadians shun Air Canada and their competition is enjoying a rise in popularity. I also understand why Air Canada struggles to remain viable and people like myself will never buy shares or support government bailouts of this company. Shame on you Air Canada! Your handling of this situation was uncaring and irresponsible. If I can help it, I will NEVER fly with you again/ |

Last year, I booked a flight with Air Canada, 3 months in advance. I was bumped at my destination likewise were 6 other passengers who booked early and paid for early ticket prices. Others who paid higher rates got our seats, we were stuck at an airport. We all missed our connections. The compensation was a voucher to fly with Air Canada again.
Were Air Canada agents sympathetic? No, they are desensitized to other humans. Could not care if the company they work for is heartless because they are paid good wage for being rude messengers. The CEO who flys in the red makes l.3 million a year.
No snow, no cancellations put still poor service.
My sympathies to those who are stuck at air ports. When air travel was less busy, airlines cared, today too many agents are rude and are not empathetic, hopefully, each one gets stuck in an airport once in their life. |

Air Canada has sucked since forever. Some of the rudest people in customer service I have ever seen. Horrible. F*ck those guys. |

I'll bet they were a lot more concerned about their international passengers than their domestic passengers. |

I had one favorable experience with AC. Once I had a huge panic attack just as I got on the plane and I had to get off ASAP. The thing was I was stuck in TO and had to get to ED so I had to get on the next plane no matter what. One AC worker was really kind to me and took care of me. She was all motherly and supportive. She got me a couple ativan, got one of the captains to talk to me. She was really great. I'll never forget her.
Other than that time I think AC sucks ass. |

It is the worst airline I've ever flown on. It took me 52 hours to get from Seoul to east coast US. I'd rather swim. |
