So I just accepted a position at the Pyeongchon location of Avalon, to start in early February. There's been a fair amount of discussion on Avalon on this board (there was even a recent thread about the Pyeongchon location) however there is one thing that I don't think anyone has mentioned.

I accepted a job in their "Langcon" division, which I believe is for the youngest kids that they teach there (grades 1 through 4). Does anyone have any experience with Langcon? I like kids, but sometimes really young children can be a handful, especially in groups. I've already mailed out my documents, so there's not much I can do now, but does anyone have experience with Langcon at all (either in Pyeongchon or elsewhere)?

My second question -- can anyone who's currently teaching at Avalon Pyeongchon send me a quick email, or perhaps just reply to this thread? I was just kind of hoping I could get the lay of the land. My email address is mnusair(at)rogers(dot)com, if anyone wants to email me.

You know, it just occurred to me that this would probably be more appropriate in the "job related" forum. So... whoops! Sorry. Could some moderator perhaps move this post?

or try contacting the school and talking to the native speakers who are already there... especially the one who's job (i'm assuming) you will be taking over...

in my experience though (i teach middle schoolers), elementary students are a bit more behaved and actually find learning english fun, whereas middle school students are split down the middle: half are good, half give me a headache with the constant disciplining... go figure...

good luck

I hadn't thought of that point about younger versus older students. That makes sense. I feel a bit better about my choice now, as I did have the choice to teach older kids and chose Langcon instead.

Howdy.

I know that hagwon, though I didn't work there. It opened about a year ago beside my friend's old hagwon so I don't think you're going to be able to find anyone working there unless you hang around out front when their shift ends.

Word of mouth says that it's a good school. I've heard a number of people say that. It has a good reputation (so far). I think it's a good idea. I actually applied there for my second year and they didn't want to hire me--no idea why. I might've not had enough experience. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I was just accepted to work at this branch. How's the school after experiencing it OP? If anyone else knows, that would be awesome as well.
