Agreed Bangbayed. I'm not much of a fan of Nascar, but I am not suffering from any type of resentment for people who do. The only sport I resent of Golf to be honest, and that's because of the whole class structure and arsehole mentality of it.
Remember Gopher, during the whole runup to the election you were in League with those Morons!
You kind of reminded me of a disgruntled sports fan at times. It's funny... the similarities |

Oh, so true. Golf should be singled out especially. |

Bangbayed: lighten up. Chill, baby. Did not realize I had so struck a nerve on this topic with you and others here.
________
ROFL, Riverboy. I support the Republican Party and therefore I am the same as a Nascar fan -- because, presumably, all and only Republicans are Nascar fans. Sounds like run-of-the-mill, clich leftist nonsense to me, niito. Have any data to cite that show that? You guys will never, not in a million years, experience an independent, non-dogmatic thought on any single thing. Must suck to be you.
What, pray tell, is next? Gonna call me a Bible-thumper...? |

Depends where you grew up playing it as regards class structure. I played for roughly 50 euros a year junior membership. I definitly miss playing a round or two with my brothers.

I think you could put anything down like this. You don't like drama? I don't like watching adults play pretend.
I love sports and I follow sports from several different countries. I am mesmerised by them. I could watch a barry sanders or a brian westbrook for hours, every move is a thing of beauty.
I especially love reading about sports. the Irish newspapers, where gaelic games are written about like sagas from a distant past. I love how intensely local gaelic games are, how parrish teams are like families, how every second sunday in spetember has a plot, north vs south, redemption. I love it when northern teams come at the kingdom like barbarians at the gate and win in a rout, the shock of it.
American sports also have numerous extremely intelligent blogs out there dedicated to them.
As any person who has a deep passion for something, I find it hard to accept why others don't agree. I suppose I have to though, to each their own. I just wish people could try to articulate more closely why they don't like sports. Like, really guys, would you really prefer to talk politics or israel/palestine than watch an nfl playoff game? Reed's second pick today, that is art. It should be appreciated. |

I thought I'd get a chuckle out of you Gopher. Seriously though, I am only makking the exact same generalisation as you did about people who watch sports.
Your man John McCain is an avid Boxing fan, your girld Palin, a moose hunter and good ol Bush owned a baseball team. And.. You voted for all of them. You voted for jerks! |

When have I ever given the indication that I was leftist? Or, dogmatic for that point? |

I think it comes from his being the last one picked for every sport he ever played.
It's Ok Gopher, some people are meant for less manly things. I'm sure there is a fabulous needle point, or macrame thingy you can do. The world needs things like that too. It is what makes us diverse! |

Agreed.
I am able to pretend to like this and that sport when in the company of sports fans. But I can't for the life of me fake an appreciation for golf. |

Well that was just an example actually of reducing something to its basic level as a reason not to like it. I don't dislike anything categorically.
I guess I was looking for a deeper reason for your dislike of sport.

Well I doubt you are convincing. I'm pretty sure after 5 minutes of conversation with someone on premier league soccer for example, I would know they are bluffing. I don't like being patronised in that way either. |

"Sports fans are generally jerks" says nothing about whether one participates in or enjoys sports, JMO.
You and others here chronically demonstrate an inability to stay on point. |

I don't live in Europe and don't know socialize -as far as I know- with a single soccer fan so that isn't a problem. But I get a few papers to my door and occasionally leaf through the sports sections to see what is up. And anyways, the society is so sports obsessed that it is hard to not be able to hold a conversation on the topic. It seeps into all media.
As to why I dislike it. I don't. I don't like watching sports. |
