So all of the english language movies playing at the chain cinemas are terrible. Where are the art house cinemas, either in english or with subtitles (either way, I'd just like to see a good film), in Seoul?
And yeah, I can download anything, but sometimes it's nice to go out and actually you know, go to the movies. |

I really enjoyed "Slumdog Millionaire". My friend and I saw it last week in Vancouver and it was awesome!! "Four Minutes" (A German film w English subtitles) is also amazing! Watched that on the plane coming back.
I believe that there's sort of an alternative theatre somewhere around Hyewah.

You can check out either "Cinecube" or "Dongseung Cinematheque." They both play independent movies. |

Harpeau and Movybuf. You are both princes of men.
It seems like The Road is going to be playing at Cinecube. Hot damn.
Slumdog Millioaire sounds decent, what's this film "Four Minutes" about? |

Vier Minuten (2006) (Four Minutes) An elderly piano teacher trains a young convict at a women's penitentiary. That's all that I'm saying. I would hate to spoil it for you. It's a great movie. It's 3 years old. |

Korea has a lot of film festivals, but not that much interest in independent movies outside of that. The only independent movie house I know of has been playing Dirty Dancing nonstop for pretty well a year now, and just recently added a John Woo movie into the rotation. |

Do you really want to see Dirty Dancing over and over? It's right outside Seodaemoon Station. |

Here's a map showing how to get to Seou Art Cinema in Insadong:
http://www.seoulselection.com/venue_view.html?vid=138
Since I had a couple weeks off, I just bought a bunch of "remarkably cheap" DVDs (in Itaewon near exit 3) including "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "The Wrestler", "Religulous", "Swing Vote", "Burn After Reading", "Zack and Miri Make a Porno", "Eagle Eye", "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People", "Appaloosa", "Disaster Movie", "Balls Out", "An American Carol", and "Kung Fu Panda".
I've been thinking of starting a general "movie review" thread... |

Burn After Reading was pretty funny. I have no idea what Balls Out is, and am not sure I want to know.
How's the Wrestler? I've been wanting to see that. |

I bought Balls Out because it's by the director who did (at least one of) the Harold and Kumar... movies. The only one that I've seen - ... Escape from Guantanamo Bay had some hilarious scenes, i.m.o., but Balls Out was an off-beat "tennis" flick that pretty much sucked...
I looked forward to the The Wrestler because I've been an on-again/off-again "fan" of pro wrestling since I was a little kid (despite it's exploitative mayhem).
A very realistic depiction of the grim realities faced by fading "superstars", the film delivers on at least two fronts: a powerful performance by ("comeback kid"?) Mickey Rourke, and Marisa Tomei's sympathetic stripper character's dancing while clad only in a G-string ... |

Gotcha
The Wrestler sounds up my alley, even though I was never really a fan of the rasslers as a kid. Occasionally I would watch it. Darren Aronofsky is kind of a spotty director. What I've seen of his fall into two categories: A mess or so depressing you'll never want to watch again.
Was Appaloosa any good? I'm kind of a sucker for westerns but haven't heard too many good things about it.
I'm kinda psyched for The Road to finally get released. |

So I guess Bit Torrents are going to be my best friend, huh?
Is it a decent John Woo movie at least? |
