|
|
| Am trying to make some use out of an old Pentium 4 2.8 computer, but it needs a new graphics card. The fan is noisy. It's a GeForce 5500. Is it possible just to have someone at Yongsan replace it? Not interested in spending much money on it. |

I had this Zalman (LINK) product on another nvidia card. It worked better and quieter than the original one!
If you want to go completely silent, get the Zalman VNF100. This one does not have any fans but a huge heatsink = no sound at all. |

| I've never replaced it, but I have taken off and put back on the stock fan before. Not hard, just unscrew the 6~8 screws on the underside of the card and unplug the fan power. And when you pop the new fan on make sure you put the washers back under the screws. |

Well, I replaced it. They sold a fan/heatsink combo that cost 4,000 won.
It's a bit smaller than the original, but it's listed as working for my unit. I took of the old one and put on the new one -- easy. |

I hope that you removed all the old thermal grease from the GPU chip and applied some fresh stuff before mounting the new cooler (or the new cooler may have come with some thermal grease pre-applied). |

Yup.
The cooler came with its own thermal grease in a paper, but I noticed half of it had dried out. I used some extra CPU thermal grease I had in a drawer. |
