My E2 runs out in September 2009 and I was thinking about staying for another month to travel around Korea. Do I just go to Immi and get a tourist visa, or will I have to leave the country? Is there anyway I can extend my current one for at least a couple of weeks if I can't get a month?

Also, on the immi website, it has info about the American tourist visa being extended to 90 days, but that you need an "e-passport":

http://seoul.immigration.go.kr/HP/COM/bbs_03/ShowData.do

Do I need this? Obviously I can come into the country if I have already had a few visas.

From what I know, you've got to leave. Had to do it three times personally.

You can get a extension of up to 30 days (no charge for non-work purposes) as long as you have tickets.

Damn. It'd be nice to go to immi, have them cancel my visa and then give me a tourist one. That would be easy!

You don't need a tourist visa!

You can extend your period of sojourn for up to 30 days (free, if you are not working) if you have tickets to leave K-land. You can do it at any Immi office, or online.

It is as simple as CM explained.

Well, I was thinking if I could stay the full 3 months as the American tourist visas allow, that would be nice....but just extending the ARC would only allow me a month.

At the conclusion of your contract, your school should give you an exit order from the Ministry of Justice, which will specify that you must leave within a certain period of time. Not all employers do this though.

Or you could leave and come back.

Good luck.
