I often wonder about the effectiveness of my teaching at my middle school and would like to get some feedback from the students. When I brought up the idea to my co-teacher a month ago, she shot it down and said that students will lie and it would be a big waste of time.

If you've given out evaluations at either your public school or university, have you found them helpful?

i, to an extent, agree with your coteacher. if you do this, you need to learn how to read through the BS of kids that hate you because you didnt play enough movies and the students that are too scared to say anything bad about you. it is difficult, but choose your wording corectly. such as, dont ask "what was bad?" ask "what lesson should we skip if we dont have enough time?"

questions that they can answer without making you look bad are good. another example "do you feel you learned enough grammar?" change to "if we had more time, should we add more grammar, or speaking?"

also, explain that there is a culture difference and this is not for you to feel you are the best, but to truly improve your teaching, and it is common in your culture for students to do this (but only at appropriate times in an appropriate way)
