OK how about this one? can anyone confrim this is urban myth or truth?
Korea Immigration, in their zealous crusade against foreigners teaching privates, once severely embarassed themselves by arresting and detaining what they thought was a violator making repeat visits to an office. They had wrestled the poor bloke to the ground and marched him in cuffs to the Immigration Detention Office. After patting themselves on the back on a job well done Uh, Oh it turned he was the American CEO of Hewlett Packard Korea.
Heard that from an ex BC colleague. Can anyone shed any light? |

Mankind if you can get 100,000 go for it. I hear teachers talk about so and so who taught wherever but I don't know anyone who actually has gotten it. |

My Korean co-worker's American boyfriend was caught. He spent a night or two in jail, in addition to the usual fine and deportation.
Wonder if his sphincter was returned to him afterwards! |

The guy who got shot in his own apartment has a website somewhere. He was a GI who returned to Korea to become a teacher, got drunk with his boss, his boss cut his hand open (somehow...) and bled all over the hall on his way out the door. Someone found the blood, thought someone had died, called the cops and they came in guns blazing. He has been trying to sue the Korean govt. for years. Good luck.

I remember seeing his website too, I wish I could find it now, but I wouldn't know where to begin to look for it. The last time I saw it, which was well over a year ago, the page telling his sad story (for which he seemed surprisingly unbitter, he saw it as an honest mistake) was replaced with a suicide note. His Korean girlfriend left him, and he didn't think life was worth living without her.
Sadder ending to an already sad story. |

Yeah, I have serious doubts about this 100,000 an hour gig. I have a few friends who speak fluent Korean and charge maximum 50-60,000/hour. But 100,000 won for one hour? What kind of English are they teaching them? Unless the foreigner is fluent in Korea, its something between scamming the guy and half-robbing him/her.

The biggest urban myth is that people are going to come over to Korea and be immediately discovered to have blue eyes and become a major movie star here based on that. |
