Universities specialize at turning out tools that can parrot what was popular yesteryear. Real learning is done once you've graduated. Wink

Busted for interfering in the governmental education of the masses. It is the government that tells people what they should believe in. It is ok to say what you want, but don't interfer in the nanny state.

Did he cause a serious loss of face for Korea? It's quite illegal to uncover and talk about negative things, especially negative things a corrupt official is operating. Many countries don't have freedom of speech.

Mr Choi, you have been accused of rape, could you please write us a poem.

Basic summary: Minerva accused government of ordering the 7 major financial institutions to stop buying dollars, which caused major disruption in market; govt responded within 1 hr denying the accusation; minerva then responded immediately saying government is lying, why would they lie so brazenly when anybody can check with a couple phone calls. Few hrs later it became clear minerva was the one lying; minvera apologizes profusely and deletes his comments on daum agora.

Do you know what really freaks people out about this guy? That he's self-educated. He only has a degree from the equivalent of a community college, so they gave him an essay exam on economics to test him. To their amazement, he did very well. They just can't believe that someone like him can have more knowledge and insight than the hordes of zombie drones that are graduating from Seoul National University, Yonsei, etc.

While I disapprove of him misrepresenting his credentials, self-education is precisely what is lacking in this country which makes him quite valuable. However, I am somewhat doubtful that the government or the Korean elite will ever admit that to even themselves.

This is starting to make South Korea look really, really bad internationally.

The guy gains credibility by making a series of accurate forecasts and gaining a public...then:

Basic summary: Minerva accused government of ordering the 7 major financial institutions to stop buying dollars, which caused major disruption in market; govt responded within 1 hr denying the accusation; minerva then responded immediately saying government is lying, why would they lie so brazenly when anybody can check with a couple phone calls. Tinkering with the markets based on calling the government a 'liar' about a policy...the government's action seems reasonable to me. Calling the government stupid for a policy you don't agree with is one thing; calling the government a liar when it isn't is another thing.

I agree, but these banks are the same people who are quoted in newspaper articles and on Arirang Radio as allowing foreigners overseas ATM cards freely.

How many foreigners find it easy to get an international ATM card with most major Korean banks?

The truth here is that the government (not all LMB's fault), and national news outlets, have lost so much credibility with the public that people will listen to a nobody for information and believe it to be factual.

THAT is very, very bad.

Personally, I hope the guy writes a book and makes a chunk off of a movie deal.

If being a liar was truly illegal in Korea, there wouldn't be any business left operating.

It would seem that this is only being used because they feel he is a threat to the government and they wish to silence him and others like him.

Troll Bait, he is a myth buster and a myth builder.......

He says his motivation is simply to get some internet fame.

People are you complaining not being successful? Question your motivation~!

I could have sworn he was part of an anti-LMB group.

I would say that his motivation was more than just fame.

I actually believe it is very, very good. The more that people question what they are told and stop being sheep the better the country will become. If people are really starting to distrust the TV and newspapers then things have a shot at improving. Critical thinking in regards to mass media is severely lacking in this country. If people questioned the motives of newspapers and TV more often the madcow silliness would not have even come about.

It all depends on who he upset and how much 'financial damage' he did.
