Not a model but I used to shoot TV commercials here. Real pain in the ass. The pay was pretty good. Nobody ever bothered to check on my Vias status or check on the legality of my work. |

I recently broke up with a K-girl model and if she answers my call maybe I can help you out. I guess it might be different for you than her though as she started when she was younger. I know she used to go to some special hagwon as a kid for that kinda stuff, but I think her parents probably got her into it. |

My understanding is only if you were to get another visa. On an F2 you can work at anything you want, but an E2 you're limited to a single job at a single school regardless of what your boss says. Now I believe you can talk to immigration about working outside the scope of your sojourn, but I'm not sure what that entails. |
While you're technically only allowed one job for your E-2, there ARE ways around it. However it's a huge hassle for a person on an E-2 to go through all the paperwork that making it legal entails. Most companies are not going to want to put in the time and effort if they're only using you for one shoot on one day. F visas are much preferred. |

Bump.
Can anyone send me phone numbers or e-mail addresses or general information about how to get started? I got stopped in Itaewon and asked to do a shoot for some catalogue, but at the time I lived in Gwangju and had to go home the next day.
They wanted to pay 100,000W an hour. Is that good? Or what is typical pay?
What is the process? Do you get a headshot and take it to an agency? Or show up at an agency and if you're attractive enough they take you on? Anyone?? I don't think I could 'act sexy' with a straight face, but it'd be awesome to make some extra cash. |

Of course you did. Of course you did. |
Isn't this enough to give credibility to that?

For the OP:
I have modeled for Koreans the last three years mostly in the undergarmet fashion (boxers, not briefs). It's a good gig. |

So if not Korea (on an E2), does anyone know how to get into modelling in North America? It seems like a decent gig. |

If you're from the West, Korea is the place to be on tv (sometimes, without knowing about it ) so be ready if you're shy. Just know that any random day you leave the house, you may end up on Korean television especially if you're a customer at a new establishment. Taiwan sometimes uses women for trade shows, car shows, Korea may use you for makeup shows, but, as many things in Korea, this just kind of *happens*, usually when you're not expecting it.
I have never been to Hong Kong but there are professional models there including, so I heard, Elyse (sp?) from America's Next.
At the risk of being flamed (biting my nails with nervousness as I type this) there ARE professional agencies in JAPAN that represent foreigners and it's also a great way to make money over there. Look in the major cities. I'm not going to go any further with this to avoid being flamed. (I am nervous even mentioning Japan anymore on this forum but that is where it's at if you're a foreign model.)
Best of luck to you. |

In America? Move to a major city. That's is where the major markets are, major coastal cities with the rare exception in the middle of the country being Texas where it is possible to find work.
ATLANTA has a market for models including some Korean and Korean/mixed models who are getting to be well known as well as a large Korean community, just in general.
Best of luck to you as well. |

Not lying.
Anyone who knows anything about how they hire foreigners for acting here will know that what I've said is hardly bragging. Cripes, just look at about any foreigner acting on TV these days and you'll realize that little talent is involved. Even talented actors are prompted to act in a totally unnatural way. As for me, I've done mostly non-speaking parts and off-camera voice work. I've also been known to walk away from people who aren't handling paperwork legally. Do that to a Korean "agency" on the set, and they tend not to call you back -- fine by me. I'd rather get one call a month from a legal outfit than 10 from a huckster trying to make a dime off of my back and make me take the fall.
I was called to be in three movies last year. That is something I hope to do some day. Unfortunately, I was headed to the US last summer, and wasn't able to be in any of them. Oh, one of them might have worked out, but they kept moving the shoot date. Just two weeks ago, I was called to do a show about foreigners married to Koreans. Said, "No thanks" to that!
Let these guys know you have an F-2, and Bob's your uncle. It's important to have a flexible schedule, however, because 70 percent of the plans they make will change. Don't believe me? Try it. Anyone really interested in this can fire me a PM. It also helps to scan the Korea Herald classifieds in the community area.
Some day they'll probably stop calling me. I could care less, because to them, I'm just some waygook that can make money for them if they fill an open spot. It has nothing to do with talent at all. |

You should do your research who you're talking to. You're just looking like a foolish noob. |
