Well, it was certainly an understated performance. He was nominated for a "Golden Globe" best actor award - along with ...

Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
and Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler

Though not as obviously talented as Tom Hanks was in Big, he still had to convey the various age-appropriate nuances ...

Did you know that Strakhage is in Cannibal the Musical? The first movie Trey Parker made in college, before South Park? He wears a tiny hat in it. That scene is funnier than anything in Yes Man.

I mean an hour and a half long film using a concept that would be hard to make a comedy sketch over five minutes with? Is even SNL that bad these days?

Of course I know Stan Brakhage was in Cannibal the Musical - it was the only good thing he ever did. Also, I agree that Cannibal was funnier than Yes Man. However that doesn't detract from the fact that there is a place and time for stupid comedies. There are a lot of times when I don't want to be taxed with watching a "deep" movie and I just want to see something light. I'm sure many people feel that way. I'm in now way saying that Yes Man is a great movie, but it is far from terrible.

Just saw Yes Man last night, and it was ok. It was by no means great, but it wasn't terrible. It was simply a mediocre, run of the mill comedy along the lines of Tommy Boy or Mrs. Doubtfire.

The one part that I thought was a little odd was the Korean he spoke to the bridal shop clerk. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it very rude to address a young woman as Agashi?

You can't put Tommy Boy and Mrs.Doubtfire in the same category. Chris Farley movies were works of genius. Robin William's non-bearded roles have a bit less going for them.

Agashi is "Miss". It's generally considered flattering, implying youth, rather than ajumma, implying married/thirties/forties/fifties, or god forbid halmony (grandmother).

The line towards the end where Norm is trying on pants with pleats and Soo-Mi's subtitles say "They make your package look good". All she actually said was "they make you look good", absolutely nothing about package.

cool, thanks. One of these days, I'll get off my ass and actually study Korean that's useful outside of a classroom or grocery store.

I enjoyed Yes man...

It was a simple comedy..

I think those who said the koreans enjoyed it because of the korean in it are mistaken. The koreans in the theater were laughing because his korean was so awful.

I have to admit that it was a little awkward when i burst out laughing at the 'i was going to fist you' scene....and nobody else in the whole theater reacted to that Embarassed

Milk is an amazing movie. The trailer for Revolutionary Road reminds me of what you all are saying for Seven Pounds. Titanically depressing Smile

Loved Gus van sant's milk, and revolutionary road. favourite film of 2008 had to be "let the right one in", a swedish vampire coming-of-age flick. if that sounds strange, it is, but uniquely beautiful as well. the cinematography is exquisite too. download the torrent if you wanna check it out; it's worth it.

Let the right one in was good, but I think it was a bit too slow. Would have like to have seen more of the father, but still good.

Yeah, I don't know how bad his Korean sounded or not, but the whole theatre broke out in laughter even when what he was saying was not funny. They obviously were laughing at his pronunciation as Koreans do. I wonder if it is acceptable for me to laugh at my students when they massacre my language.
