Where does this 1% statistic come from? I really liked Enterprise. Also, since when are sitcoms not series?

Knight Rider was a good show. Also, The Six million Dollar Man, X-Files and so on...

The 1% doesn't come from anywhere, I've just never heard anyone say they prefer enterprise to TNG. I should've included X-files, but I pretty much just listed the first series that came to mind when I posted.

I'm not saying Red Dwarf isn't good because it's a sitcom, just that because it's a sitcom, there are different sets of criteria for evaluating it.

Well, you can't just make up statistics.

Without picking a fight here, it seems like you already have decided what the best is and you made your 'poll' fit your own highly limited view of quality programming. That is not really fair to others, especially older guys who might like drama over effects.

Perhaps about 50% of the readers of this poll are older guys. Or maybe it is closer to 56%.

I think Enterprise was the absolute best Star Trek franchise and Voyager was second best. DS9 is dead last in my opinion.

I want to change my vote. I vote X-Files. Although, technically it is more of a 'fantasy' series than Sci-Fi, it did have many episodes that were Sci-Fi based.

So, how would you fit 40 shows into 10 slots? I thought the list was fairly broad. I included three Star Treks and two and a half series which were made before 1990(Doctor Who being the half a series since it started in the 60's).

My original assumption was wrong, and more people like voyager than DS9, at least from the first page of polls that come up when doing a google search for "star trek series poll", but the first two series are more popular than the last three. While I have yet to find a conclusive study, I think things like the number of movies and seasons are pretty good indicators. TNG, DS9 and Voyager ran for 7 seasons. Enterprise was canceled after four seasons due to low ratings. There are only movies for the first two serie.

I regret that I left out X files and a few other shows, but I can't include everything.

I'll have to check that show out. It looks like it could be pretty good. Never heard of it before.

Yeah, I've gotta say - I really dug Enterprise and Firefly - they both should have been on here.

Was kind of being tongue-in-cheek, but it is a great retro '60s sci fi series.

I'm surprised to see so many people supporting Enterprise. I enjoyed it too and thought it didn't get a fair chance.

If Star Trek had been all grouped into one category, I wouldn't think twice about choosing it as one package.

Outer limits was pretty good, but I would put it in a different category too. I suppose I should have defined the topic a little more narrowly. I don't think Outer limits really fits because it is more like a series of short films than an actual series. Each episode is an entirely different story with a different cast and characters.

Anyways, I'd like to add X files, StarGate SG1 and Atlantis, and Firefly to the poll. Is there any way to do this without starting a new thread or bugging the moderators? I'd add voyager and enterprise, but I think 5 star trek series is a bit excessive.

edit: oops also forgot SeaQuest.

Someone needs to mention Twilight Zone, although I wouldn't vote for it.

I'm torn between TNG, B5, and BSG. TNG has the strongest actors, B5 was the most moving, and BSG is the most daring and profound.

I'll still have to go with TNG--it had a broader range of themes, topics, concepts, etc.

Now that you mentioned it, where's The Prisoner? That's my vote...

Voyager was my favorite Star Trek, so I guess I fall into that mythical 1% as well. My top 2 favorite didn't make the list:

1. Stargate SG-1
2. Firefly

I'm not the only one. There was something very endearing about Voyager's premise, and I found the cast very likable.

I've re-watched the series three times.

Man, I need a hobby...

Man, why does everyone love Voyager and Enterprise so much?? I liked DS9 a lot and enjoyed the station as a setting. I thought it added a lot to have a huge station that was like a city with an underbelly, but I grew up with TNG and still think it's my favorite of the Star Treks. Voyager didn't really do anything for me, and Enterprise was ok, but why they had what sounded like an 80's monster ballad as their theme song rather than the orchestral music of the previous 4 series is completely beyond me.

DS9 is a stable station. Whereas the other Star Trek Series involved adventure. Even at the beginning of the program there is just a rock spinning toward the station in DS9. The other series have space ships zooming around.

There is a whole theory about this house vs horse binary which was put forth by a writer named Robert Kroetsch.

He postulates that the "house" based literature appeals more to women and the "horse" based adventures appeal more to men.

Here is a dissertation which mentions Kroetsch's theory, Unfortunately, his is not online because of its age.

I thought the weakest thing about Voyager was the cast.
Considering they were supposed to be made up of various outlaws,
they really seemed domesticated.

In contrast, DS9 and Enterprise had good characters,
although DS9 jumped the shark with some of their best ones.
And I really wasn't a fan of the whole story arc thing, especially in DS9.

From the dissertation's abstract: "This study posits a border-crossing, post-national conception of the west, enabling a trajectory of womens literary history to become visible that transcends more narrowly-imagined Canadian or American paradigms. The dissertation looks across the 49th parallel to propose a semiotics and politics of North American womens writings about the West. "

I am SO glad I got out of academia...
