i believe that if it had been allowed to live to full term, firefly would have been better than bsg (which is the one i voted for). it was a very clever and creative series, and the character development was top-notch. it's interesting, because firefly is very obviously influenced by star wars, and bsg has its roots in star trek AND star wars, so youve got that whole star trek vs star wars thing all over again |

Lost seems only sort of Sci-fi. And, no I don't mean it's not set in space. There are definitely a lot of science fiction parts, but there are so many episodes that are more drama/adventure/mystery. |

stargate sg-1 alone has 10 years and 3 movies, 2 out 1 in pre production.
and then there's SGA. 5 seasons, 100 eps, 1 movie
oh and there's also Stargate Universe which is in pre production. |

Lost definitely defies genre classification, if it's anything its mystery sci-fi.
i propose a new classification Weird Things Fantasy

I dug Lost for a while, but I had the same problem with Lost as I did with the new Battle Star Galactica, I lost interest. Don't get me wrong, I'm still interested in it, but I think season 4 sidetracked with the flashforwards too much, and I just stopped caring.
I guess the other problem that came up for me was the characters. I was totally down with Locke, but then he started to be a dick, and I had no one left to really sympathize with.
Nevertheless, I still think it's a great show, just not one that I personally enjoy anymore. |

Keep in mind that the poll says all series of Battlestar Galactica, which is a major handicap, especially if you've seen Galactica 1980. Star Wars is also similarly handicapped by everything made since the Christmas special. |

i thought the last season of lost was without question the best. but a lot of ppl dont feel that way, and that surprises me, since they really advanced the plot, and a lot of times on shows like these, ppl complain if the plot isnt advanced |

Except that many people don't think ike this. I liked BSG as a kid. I love nBSG now. It's the best show on TV so it's my choice. Same for StarWars. Noone considers the crappy TV shows and Ewoks movies. It's all about the original 3. |

You'll have to vote in the other poll.

Quantity does not equal quality. Though I've never see a whole episode of Stargate so I'm unqualified to comment.
Since Star Trek has now become it's entirety, I don't think anyone can argue that it's not the best. It's definitely the most influential, and can probably be credited with inventing nearly every convention of the genre. Firefly was consistently better, but much, much shorter. |

I'd have to agree with you there. Personally, I like farscape more than any single star trek series, but as a whole, the star trek universe and concept blows everything else away.
The one show that I don't really understand the popularity of is BSG 2004. It has an interesting plot, great effects and action, but little else, in my opinion. I could just never get into it since I hated all of the characters. Everyone seems so angsty, I just want the cylons to kill them all. |

It started out amazing, with some great plot lines and concept episodes, but has now sunk into the typical modern soap opera/sci-fi series. Focusing more on which character is in love with/cheating on/fucking which other character. They basically obliterated any plausibility their overarching plot line had with too many complexities and plot holes. |
