From what I've seen of him (only a few fights) Fedor's main strengths are his keen intelligence and patience. He also is a hard puncher, has great submission skills, and can take a big punch.

I don't detect much weakness other than he can be temporarily overpowered (like against Hongman Choi) and can be outboxed by someone who takes advantage of his low guard - and avoids getting too aggressive.

Arlavski's sharpest skills are his boxing - mainly because of his work with expert trainer Freddy Roach - but he got in trouble when he rushed into Fedor's punching range (exposing his own main weakness - his chin).

While Fedor figures to be a big favorite over either Lesnar or Frank Mir, I think both of them have some strengths they can utilize to their advantage (to at least make it an interesting fight...)

Both Lesnar and Mir have a big reach advantage over Fedor, both can strike hard (especially Lesnar) and both seem like they have a strong chin (though they may cut easily).

Mentally, Fedor would seem to have a big advantage over the relatively inexperienced Lesnar.

Lesnar probably could take Fedor down whenever he wanted to (especially early) but would probably be smart to try to outstrike him and catch him with a big shot first.

Of course, Fedor is smart and skillful enough to try to take it to the ground if he sees he's getting beat standing up, and he has a huge advantage in submission skills on the ground.

So, I think that Lesnar's best chance is to hit him with a big enough shot or two - or three - before taking him down and trying to finish him off with overpowering ground-and-pound.

Mir showed against Nogueira that he has the mental discipline to stick to a game plan (which in that case was not to go to the mat) and he has a lot of different offensive skills.

However, Nogueira's subpar condition and questionable age - who believes that he's only 32? - may have made Mir look better than he really was in an apparently dominating performance over a legendary fighter.

And Fedor's intelligence is such that (according to him) he doesn't need to make any fight plan - he's ready to adjust his skills accordingly as the situation dictates.

Anyway, Lesnar and Mir are scheduled to meet in their rematch on May 23, and that will be the next mega-event for the heavyweights.

Meanwhile, in a great welterweight rematch, George St. Pierre takes on BJ Penn next week (Jan. 31) at UFC 94 ...http://www.montrealgazette.com/Sports/Pierre+faces+ultimate+challenge/1204839/story.html

I think Mir would give Fedor more of a challenge than Brock. Mir's stand up looked tight vs Minotaur. I think Mir will be able to stand with Brock this next time around.

As for Brock taking Fedor down...I don't think so. Fedor is as strong as a russian bear. Brock's only chance is in the standup. If it goes down, it will be over in two minutes.

What can be said about the man?

Fedor is an equivalent of Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky. His record is unheard of in MMA and he finds ways to capitalize on one tiny mistake...

My favorite Fedor moment was against Randleman, 20 seconds after getting dropped on his back he submitted him.

Even the Arlovski fight was typical Fedor... it looked like he's getting outboxed and then two seconds later the fight is over and you don't even know what the hell happened.

The guy is a wrecking machine. He would beat Brock Lesnar in under 2 minutes, and I'm being generous.

He'd kill Brock standing, and if Brock took him down he'd find himself in an arm bar faster than Choi did.

I can't wait to see it.

Unless Fedor's manager or Dana White backs down on their demands (unlikely), and Fedor gets signed to the UFC, it won't happen. There's no way Dana will allow Brock to fight outside of the company.

Fedor's current contract isn't up until the end of the year anyway.

I think the Fedor/Lesnar match will take place way, way in the future, and will be the MMA equivalent of last year's Jones vs. Trinidad fight. Something we've always wanted to see, but will lack the "ooomph" of seeing them fight at the top of their game.

Kind of like Chuck Lidell v. Wanderlei Silva.

Personally I would much rather see Fedor vs. Barnett.

Barnett's looking good these days, too. Even if Fedor won the fight, it would still be a stellar slugfest.

for as much as i love fedor... i think he's very beatable... find the fight where fujita nearly knocked him out... quite miraculous that he was still able to win that fight by submission... but it did show that he is not bullet proof... and as far as hi fighting barnett goes... if affliction doesn't fold, that's supposedly the next main event for them.

I'd like to see Fedor and Fiveeagles fight Bill Ayers and Barack Obama.
