i am in the process of applying for jobs in Korea an d a lot of unis send my files in HWP format. Is there anyway to get a free download or free document reader of some sort so i can read the documents without having to keep asking them to send it in a microsfot word document? i have MS vista by the way.

Hover over "다운로드" from the black bar near the top of the page.

Then click on "뷰어" from what drops down.

Then click on the "Save file/첨부" icon to the right of "한글과컴퓨터 오피스 뷰어 2007" for your download.

To install the Haansoft HWP viewer:

1. Stay in the Korean-language version of the website -- don't stray into the English version. It's odd, but true.

2. Download and run the installer program (as per the above).

3. Wait for the 다음 (daeum, 'next') button to become active, and then click it.

4. Agree to the terms of service (first check box). You can uncheck the second box, which I suspect has to do with Daum.net (probably making it the default search engine and/or installing a toolbar).

5. Choose which types of files to associate with the HWP viewer. Those who have an office program that can edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint files will probably not want to have DOC, XLS and PPT files associated to HWP viewer. If you do, everytime you doubleclick on such a file, it'll be viewed instead of edited.

6. Click on the install 설치 button.

7. Wait 5 or so minutes.

8. Uncheck Daum again, if you did in step 4. (How annoying!)

9. 마침 means 'finish.' Click it and you're ready to view HWP files!

10. Say a prayer for those who don't consider what it's like to be a non-Korean in Korea -- namely, those who send us HWP files!

(The above steps are missing one item, but sadly I tried to submit a better set of instructions and they were lost. Internet Explorer 7 isn't smart enough to solve this problem...)
