I just got my itinerary today. My contract states that I am supposed to begin on Feb. 15th, so I assumed I'd be leaving sometime next week. My itinerary has me leaving Feb. 21st...3 weeks from now! I emailed my recruiter to see what was going on and was told that my start date had been changed by the school. Apparently, no one felt it was necessary to tell me this. My start has been changed about 5 times and I've adapted my plans to accomodate these changes (last day of work, a trip to see my family in florida, etc.) Now, I don't mind the fact that I have to stay here in the states for another 3 weeks, but I quit my job thinking I was leaving next week. Therefore, I'm here for almost a month with no income coming in.
I know contracts in Korea aren't binding like they are here in the USA, but this is a little ridiculous. Has anyone else been through something like this?
Thanks

LOL... probably 99.8% of foreign, English teachers in K-land. If you don't run at about the 3-month mark, you'll get used to it; and learn to use it to your advantage. Cool

How can your start date change? Or how can your end date change? Check your alien card and contract. Confused

The OP isn't in K-land, so cannot yet have an alien card. The start date is Feb. 15 and will remain so unless the OP signs a modified contract with a different start date when he/she gets here... something to think about.

Yes, welcome to Korea dear.

If it's three weeks late, been changed 5 times, and been totally messed up beyond belief from start to finish, then it is on time and everything is normal. Relax.

OP- I hear you! I graduated college before Christmas and was told by my recruiter that i'd be all ready to go in 4-6 weeks. Since it was that short of a time period, I decided just to take a month off and relax instead of finding a temp job for a few weeks. And now, it's February and I don't think I'm going to be going till late this month. No income, no idea when I'm going to leave so I haven't found a job (not that there are any in my area, middle of nowhere). So I hear ya, just hang in there, read some good books. It sucks, but we're almost over there.

Most jobs wont need you until about March 2nd so they will keep playing with the start date to hold you but at the same time not pay you before you are needed.

Well at least I'm not alone! I have my itinerary, so I know I'm leaving on the 21st. Where in SoKo are you going to be teaching?

Are you saying I could be sitting in Korea without out working for a couple weeks? Lovely.

Highly unlikely as you will arrive after your contract has started.

Assuming you will be working at a hogwan (I sense this in not a PS job), the owner is simply keeping you (unpaid) in your country until you are needed.

Yeah...I've already emailed them to send me a contract with the new start date on it.
