Hello I did a search but nothing.
Can anyone tell me where there are free Korean lessons.
I know that there used to be some at city hall, but im not sure about these days.
Many thanks,

As many problems as I get from unfriendly Korean people, I find that every Korean will give a free lesson if you ask... In other words, on the subway, in a coffee shop or bar, just ask what something is in Korean and you're no longer just foreigner, but rather playing into the culture of respect by assuming someone is a teacher. They love it, and you learn lots. |

I've found that cheap or free lessons aren't too good. I agree with that "Got Goals" guy on here. You get some lessons, and the teacher is speaking a million miles an hour, all in Korean. If I could understand Korean lectures, I wouldn't need lessons, would I? You get what you pay for, sometimes.
But then again, I've never had lessons near City Hall. Maybe the lessons are good. |

You could try to find astudious and patient Korean student and just provide them with a book. Give them English lessons back in return and you`ll find they`ll do their best to help you Duff man. |

The free lessons are ok to start with and to continue alongside other lessons. For me, I studied the first few Sogang language books at home and then took a 2 hour private lesson once a week with a qualified teacher. It cost 160k per month which is nothing really and my korean improved drastically in no time. It suited me better than taking classes as the korean teacher used to come to my place every week so didn't take too much time out of my schedule |

There are free classes near City Hall at a couple of places:
THe Korean Foundation Cultural centre ( I took beginner classes here for a few months and they were good)
http://www.kfcenter.or.kr/english/meet/02_read.asp?num=2608&lang_flag=2&sorts_flag=&year_flag=2009&month_flag=02&Page=1
Seoul Global Center
and on Saturdays afternoons there are classes near Sookmyung Women's university station.
I recommend these.
I also took lessons here - the teachers are very kind, and if you don't understand, you can always take the same level a second time - no worries (I went on Monday evenings - Beginner 1 and 2) |

Could someone give some more information about where the Saturday classes are? I went to this Seoul Global Center (http://global.seoul.go.kr/) and checked their calendar, but it didn't list any Korean language classes on Saturdays, is that the right website?I have to commute to Seoul and weekends are the only time I can go..thanks so much |

Like everything the experience depends on the teacher. (So it probably doesn't matter of lessons r free or not, for teacher attitude/quality).
I did the first course of free lessons at City Hall area place and the teacher was great. It wasn't easy being with a large class of people who mostly were not native English speakers, so had proven language learning ability tho. Opposite of em lol.
Signed up for the folow up class, different teacher. Awful! 2 hours of incomprehensible rambling, refused to give us even a 5 minute break. |

If you (or anybody else reading this) want to study Korean seriously, you can contact me. My wife is teaching Korean to a few people these days. She is not free, but you will actually learn Korean. She speaks English well, and has a lot of experience teaching Korean to foreigners in Korea. |

So...I guess you don't believe in modern teaching methodology for English too?
I can pick up a KOR/ENG dictionary and translate all the words I want on my own. |
