I am about to make the long flight and start my teaching contract in Uijeongbu city. I was wondering if anyone is based in the same area? Or if anyone has any experiences which I may find usefull.

Im 24, male and from the UK.

Thanks in advance

there's been a few posts on this.

Uijeongbu is an hour north of Seoul, on the blue line, line 1. There's a large Homeplus and the area around the Subway station gets pretty crazy at night. There's a lot of okay bars that foreigners frequent. My favorite was probably Mia Bar near the subway station. The staff is really cool and the owner is smoking hot. You may find me there sometime if I ever go back to Uijeongbu. If you want to know anything else send me an email and I'll be happy to answer.

uijeongbu is about an hour northeast of central seoul, but actually borders a part of seoul called nowon-gu. you can be in seoul in about 5-10 minutes by subway from uijeongbu station.

there are a number of bars and restaurants near uijeongbu station. keep in mind that there are other stations in uijeongbu too. there are also american fastfood chains, a tesco-samsung megastore called homeplus (not too much tesco going on these days though), and that's about it. uijeongbu is spread out, but you'll likely be within a reasonable distance from the main subway station.

there is a movie theater by uijeongbu market, but it isn't very nice. you can shoot down to nowon station, which is not far at all by subway, to take in movies at the lotte dept. store. there are also a lot more foreigners in that general area, along with the once popular dragon bar. not sure if it is anymore. i've heard there are plenty of foreigners running around up here too, but i'm married and expecting so i don't get out too often.

maybe one day we'll have a uijeongbu meet-up like those industrious seoul-types do down in the big city!
