Gepik denied my application. My 4 years of hagwon experience didn't cut it I guess. Does anyone know if I can still apply to GEPIK through a recruiter or is it back to Hagwon duty for me? Shocked

EPIK, SMOE, GEPIK do NOT consider hogwan experience as valid. These are essentially unaccredited private schools with little to no standards that many are essentially glorified babysitters while others are actual hard working people in private schools.

If you want valid experience, you need to be hired from an ACCREDITED institution to be respect and valued. Hogwans are a waste of time if you want credit for your time served here.

Point well taken. I did do one year of public after-school program. Maybe it was the interview questions like what would I do if the heater didnt work and landlord didnt speak english? Confused

GEPIK were happy to accept my year in a hogwon here towards the (proven) hours necessary to qualify for a higher pay rate.

Think it must have been the interview answers....if the heater q was real q would love to hear your answer Smile

Answer: Immediately quit your job and go work somewhere where the management respects teachers enough to give them an apartment with adequate heating.

NOT true. With regards to SMOE, as long as you have proof of employment, it counts.

so you would have to start on the base salary of a measly 1.8 as hagwon work does not count?

lol. credit for time served....where? outside of Korea? No.

What do you get for three years in a public school when you trnsfer to another PS? 100,000 more a month or 200,000/ more per month? wow.

I'll put my "unaccredited private schools with little to no standards that many are essentially glorified babysitters" up against your government job any day when it comes to pay raises.

I came here at 2.1 and just landed a job at 3.3. The private sector ALWAYS pays the better trained a higher wage than than the public sector. ALWAYS. You just have to have the right references and the skills.

1st year 2.1 + extra pay inside the hagwon for doing non-teaching stuff
2nd year 2.5 + extra pay outside of my hagwon for teaching
3rd year 3.0 + extra work oustide of the hagwon for teaching and editing
4th year 3.3 for teaching + +++++ for outside work

what are the public school pay grades again? 1.8 - 2.5? How do you look yourself in the mirror without puking everyday?

That has nothing to do with an application being denied. People can get those jobs with no experience.

Not true! I know people in EPIK who's hogwan experience was considered valid and bumped them up a pay level.

I was speaking from my own EPIK experience with the interview where I was told that.

I stand corrected in noting that this can be very much up to the interviewer involved.

I have two years of hogwan experience on a public school license in the US. It's all about how you document and present it.
