Please remind them that we love surprises such as "now you must go speak to 300 people in the gymnasium."
But seriously I think a big problem is public schools don't give us one co-teacher. I had 11 last year. Someone else I know had 22. So in our case it is more of failure of SMOE to implement any sort of system where co-teaching can be beneficial. |
I know it would suck to have to deal with 11 CTs, but in my experience, if you have to use a CT, it's better to use the one who's the class' usual English teacher rather than one who's not and doesn't know the students. This way you can also better co-ordinate what you're teaching around what the CT is the other days of the week. |

Every school needs a dedicated co-teacher. Cuts down on miscues and promotes greater understanding between the 2. |

It doesn't really matter what you teach them. Eventially they'll learn that co-teaching and teaching English conversation come second fiddle to the test.
More changes need to made at a higher level including sacking the idiots that write the textbooks. |

Maybe you should propose that you teach themAFTER they pass the test. I think anything said before the test would just go in one ear and come out of the other. |

How about actual testing? Testing only happened a few times in a school year with no speaking portion....I'm thinking of having a regular speaking portion, but the logistics of it make it look unfeasible unless the school year for English was planned around it. |

My best experience with co-teacher went something like this;
She would come to me on Friday afternoon to discuss the lesson plan for the following week. She would tell me which parts of the lesson she wanted me to teach and I would prepare something accordingly.
It worked well, she would teach about half the class and I would teach the other half.
I've only had 1 co-teacher that did this however. Most come to me 5 mins. before class and say "today we teach this".
Teach them that co-teaching should involve preparation together with the foreign teacher. It doesn't take that long, maybe 15 - 20 mins/ week to discuss the following week's lessons.
Expecting foreign teachers to fly by the seat of their pants everyday is not an effective way of co-teaching. |
