|
|
Hey
I'm pretty new to this. I'm a masters student and I was wondering how do I get about on applying for a summer job in Korea teaching English.
I understand and have read about the benefits and stuff for people thinking about doing it for a year. Does it also apply for ppl would like to do it over the summer? |

| No. The TALK program might, but I doubt it. The public schools mostly shut down through August for the summer break. |

| Seconded. The only thing I can think of would be a hagwon, but I've never heard of a hagwon bringing somebody over to teach for a matter of 3 months. What you are proposing may not be possible. |

I actually just talked about this with a friend. I was thinking it might be possible to just go on a tourist visa (from what I remember it goes for 3 months), and take a bunch of hourly privates. The only problem would be housing in this situation; my friend has relatives in Korea, so it wouldn't be a problem for him, but I'm unsure of what your status with regards to that (obviously).
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure a lot of the test prep academies (for TOEFL, SATs, APs, etc.) hire more folks during the summer for their influx of international students coming in from vacation.
Edit: Oops. Didn't catch the link the above poster posted. |

| The Princeton Review Korea in Seoul hires for 2 and 3 month contracts. I believe they're hiring for the summer now but when I worked there last summer a bunch of us were doing exactly what you're talking about. |

ow cool.. how was it like working with the princeton review korea? do they hire all year round?
also just wondering if the return air flight ticket and accommodation is almost a standard benefit for those going regardless of the time frame?
did you all get a chance to pick up korean classes to assist in teaching or just as an extra language? |

I don't think I know of any school that would hire you for 3 months. The shortest contract I've heard of is a 6 month contract.
Even if you did fine a contract for 3 months, I think the start-up costs of getting here and settled would kinda break equal with whatever $$ you would make. |

wouldn't there be technically speaking no start-up cost because they got the accommodation sorted out including the return air ticket? On top of that you get paid a monthly salary no? |

airfare over here isn't cheap, and most summer/winter camps don't pay your way. sam's right on this one. if you're in-country you can make some money. you don't really make much of a profit coming over here for just working a camp. |
