Okay so I have about 1.5 tb of movies and tv spread over three hard drives and I would like to export the file names of the movies and tv shows into excel.

doing it manually is of cause impossible (1000s of files) is there any software/built in features which can do this.

i am using vista 64

Check this list of links from the Lifehacker site:

http://lifehacker.com/search/free%20movie%20collection/

A pretty comprehensive list of all the free and paid movie collection software out. Be sure to read through the reader comments.

Note: There is a ton of different software for this...you're going to be testing out quite a few!

I chose Extreme Movie Collector. It's paid, but works well. However, there are PLENTY of free alternatives.

Good luck.

I got a copy of Extreme Movie Collector and it worked for the movies okay but not so much for the tv shows.

All I need is a program to read the file names

a program that you could say,
-show all files in subdirectories,
-then copy filename only,
-paste into excel

or even better being able to copy file attributes

surely this could be useful, creating lists of music/photo/video collections, searching for duplicates etc
