| My gf and i decided to get married this april and we are going to have dual weddings. One in Korea and one in Canada. Have any of you gone through this. Anything I should know? Thanks for any advice. |

| Let me guess- you're having 2 weddings so both families will be able to attend? We did that. We told my family that we were going to get married again in Canada after our Korean wedding so no one had to spend the money to come to Korea- but they did anyway. And we told her folks that they didn't have to come to Canada to attend that wedding since they'd already been to the one in Korea, but- you guessed it- they did anyway. I can't think of anything to tell you except congratulations, and you need to get paperwork from your/her dong office (wife's family registry), Gu office, and the Canadian embassy- this may require a bit of advance planning on your part if you're living in Ulsan. |

Actually if you are doing duel weddings, it is WAY easier to get the license (AND CHEAPER) in Canada.
I should have done it like that, but I didn't know it was cheaper until I came back to Korea (after the wedding) and did it.
Remember in Canada you sign the paperwork at the ceremony, here you can do the paper work anytime, and you can do it at the GU office anytime after you come back from Canada. With the Canadian wedding certificate in hand, no need for embassy visits.
Last note, the wedding certificates in Canada look WAY better than the letter size piece of paper they give you at the embassy...in case you were keen on framing it at some point.
Was told in Canada you can only register to be married ONCE with the Canadian gov't so don't do both - embassy and signing in Canada. |

I'm doing this. And here is my story:
I'm American and I filed for a K-1 (fianc�) visa way back on March 20, 2003. I was in Korea at the time, but left in July. My fianc� just got his visa on December 30, 2003.
Before that we had a ceremony in a Korean Wedding Plaza on December 28th (minus the paperwork). We are still not legally married, but we wanted to have a ceremony for his family at a time when I could come to Korea (my Christmas vacation). There were about 200 guests at our wedding and it was really nice--even from my Western perspective.
My husband (in Korea--but fianc� in America  ) will arrive in the US this Saturday. We will have the real, legal and binding, ceremony on Feb. 14, 2004 in Michigan. It will be small here, just friends and family.
Why are we waiting to have the real deal in the US? Several reasons. 1) it would have screwed up our fianc� visa application if we had gotten married in Korea. 2) The process for a spouse to enter the US takes just as long or even longer than the K-1 fianc� process. 3) It makes my family feel a bit better about not being able to attend the first wedding in Korea because they know that the second wedding is the real thing. |

| i had my mom phone and ask about this and she said that it would be better for us to have the 'real' wedding in canada. we are both christian so we will have a wedding at her church and then have one at the local church back home. |

Where are you planning on living after the wedding? And will you have your fianc�e apply for a visa.
I'm not Canadian, so I don't know exactly how it works in your country, but in my case it is better to have the wedding in the US and get a fianc� visa. If we were getting married in Korea and then filing for a visa that process actually takes longer than filing for a fianc� visa.
If you are planning on moving to Cananda you should contact your immigration agency and maybe go to some forums that were written with people like you in mind. I found a marriage-based visa forum that has been very helpful for me. |

| We'll be living in korea for a few years after we are married and then go to canada. A friend and i have started talking about building up some capital and going into business for ourselves. IF we do do this and we are successful then we'll be staying in korea for quite awhile. |

The forum is specific to U.S. citizens and their beneficiaries (not sure if you are American.) It is http://www.visajourney.com. You can click on forum and talk with people. Even if you are not from the US, I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction. And in general, people can understand the issues that come with trying to get a visa. |
