im currently abroad but plan to return to england for a week or so then fly into seoul and find myself a teaching job. but the information in the threads is often contrasting,
i have the original copy of my degree and transcript in england- do i need to get these notoarized or anything?if so, how? do i need extra sealed copies of transcripts?
do i need to go to an interview at a korean embassy in england for the E2 VISA, or do i just arrange all the visa run to japan when i find a job i want?
do i need a criminal record check and how do i get one?
i tried to find out in the threads but theres a lot of people saying things have changed and i cant find out any definate answer, thanks for the help in advance people.. |

Hi there mate, im due to start etaching very soon, but will give some answeres where i can provide them.
With regards to the criminal records check you can only get one done in the UK through an organisation, such as an employment agency etc. All I did was request a subject access form from my local police, this effectively is the police providing any information they have about you on your record. So if your clear it will state you have had no trouble with the police.
Your university transcript has to be sealed, and mine documents had to be notarsied, although im not sure if this is standard procedure. To documents notarised you will have to go to a solicitors who has the relevant qualifications to notarise your documents, in my town there was only one guy who could do it.
You dont need to have an interview at the embassy, I sorted out my E-2 visa by just posting the relevent details to the Korean Embasy.
Again im not veteran at this so have just provided some answers based on my personal experience.
Hope it helps |

Stay in England until you get a job and your E-2 gets put in your passport. Then get on the plane and move into your place here. Be patient. |

Good advice.
Staying in England a week and then coming here to find a job means you'll probably have to fly back to England to get the necessary documents and jump through the hoops. You should remain there until you get the visa. Don't come here until you have it unless you like airports and (perhaps unnecessary) plane rides. |

Line the job up before going to Korea. This is very easy to do and you can avoid finding a bad job if you're careful. Ask lots of questions, talk to teachers who are working there and get advice on the contract. There are too many risks involved in lining up the job from here.
You're going to have to find a place to stay until you find a job, which can be expensive.
You may or may not get your airfare reimbursed. If they fly you from England they'll pay for it.
You may have Visa issues. They might try to make you work first on a tourist visa, which is illegal. They'll have to at least fly you to Japan for a Visa run to make it legal (which might mean no money for your flight from England to Korea). They might even have to fly you back to England, since I think first time Visa people cannot get their Visa in a third party country.
Also, if you need documents like criminal background checks, etc., those are easier to get if you're still in your home country.
So find the job in England first then come over. |

thanks for the help guys,
i have accepted that i wont get my flight reimbursed- so if i do its a total bonus and i have enough money saved to live for 2 months at least in korea before i start getting paid. so i really cant see why i shouldnt fly to korea to find my job?
im used to airports waits and unnecessary flights as iv been backpacking so long its second nature now.. so i really cant see why i shouldnt fly to korea to find my job?
so long as i have arranged some sealed transcrpt copies, notarised my degree and police check..
so long as i can go to japan for a visa run which people seem tot hink is ok, i will phone the embassies to check,
any more advice comments would be appreciated as im tryin to sort all this out in adcance and its confusing,
thanks so much for all thats been posted |

I love how people ask for advice then don't listen to it. I guess you must be a rebel so you feel in control.
STAY IN ENGLAND UNTIL YOU GET A JOB AND AN E-2 VISA.
ARE YOU LISTENING OR ARE YOU THICK AS A BRICK. |

I say come out here and then get a job!!!!!!
I wanted a crazy contract where I work 5 months on and then have one month off - so I can travel. Everyone told me in the UK that it was never gonna happen as I had just finished uni and had no teaching experience......
Got a job with that exact contract and I only work 12:30 - 18:30 within a week!!!!!
Sometimes you have to take a big risk to get big rewards!!!!! (and it isn't that big a risk, they are crying out for teachers in Korea!!!!) |

I recently came to Korea to look for a job and have just signed a contract today with a set up I'm happy with.
I did lots of research before heading out here and was told by embassy staff that you CANNOT do a visa-run to Japan if its your first E-2. You must organise your visa from your own country before coming. I've aldready had an E-2 visa here, so its ok to do a visa-run.
If this is true the the only way you'd be able to come and get a job is if you're prepared to do a visa-run to the UK from Korea. Not sure if a school would pay for that, maybe if you give up the return airfare in the contract. It is risky though as they might not and you'll have to fork out yourself for 3 trips. |

Immigration informed me that they only provide VISA in their home country. I could be wrong, but this will make VISA runs difficult. |
