|
|
I have a common, working class Welsh surname. Apparently (no - I know)
is similar to the Korean for toilet roll. The kids come out with it (behind your back) - fine - you expect them to take the piss. But for your mainly middle aged colleagues to do it to your face - well it takes the biscuit - though up till now I have turned the other cheek - today - for whatever reason - probably the cold, probably because it is February the 17th or because I have had enough - who knows. But the vice principal decided to use this term instead of my proper given name and I went ballistic on him - the *beep* and the rest of the absolute clowns faces fell when they knew my Korean was better than they thought and the Vice Principal basically got on his knees and begged for forgiveness for his stupid, infantile behaviour.
They got an English teacher to come in and she gave it 'cultural misunderstanding blahblahblah' crap and that they are 'really sorry' (like the typical Korean cowards that they are - only sorry because they were caught out)
I have treated everyone in this place with respect and I have not had it back - what I will do is name and shame the GEPIK school once I have left because I don't think it would be fair not to forewarn the next foreigner coming in about the crap they are going to recieve off these absolute racist, intolerant pricks. Thanks for reading! |

Adults can easily tell if what is being said about them is good or bad. Despite the language barrier, it is obvious when people are showing blatant disrespect.
I don't understand much Korean, but your colleague's antics sound similar to the staff at my school.
As things have deteriorated between my co-teacher and I, the staff at my school avoid me, which is how I like it.
If the VP was genuinely insulting you and it wasn't a misunderstanding, that's pretty low, but not a surprise.
I personally would never like to give my colleagues any importance, and that's why I've never complained about them.
They've stopped their antics because they know I am unflappable, or at least I give that impression, at all times!
This kind of disrespect needs to end. It does us no good, and it also tarnishes the 'sparkling' image Korea already has. Who?!!! I said Korea. |

No mate, he and the rest of the cretinous pricks here have been genuinely insulting me - using wordplay and referring me to the hanguk for toilet roll - their crap, infantile behaviour comes from the very top and when he found out I knew he was more or less on his knees in forgiveness - losing face because I called him and the others out on behaviour that a 12 year old would engage in. I have around 4 months and will name and shame the school on here when I leave - thats a promise. |

Good on you! If all natives who face similar treatment could contact a newspaper and tell them to do a story on it, it may force GEPIK to tackle these issues more seriously, just a thought. |

Is your name Hughes?
Anyway, that's pretty bad. I don't know if it's racist, but it's pretty infantile. And it's no way a visiting teacher should be treated. But hey. Look where we are.
You know? I'd take advantage of the situation and only come in when you have classes and leave once they're done. The balls in your court. It's amazing how face-saving works here though. They think they can fix everything with an appology. In China, you can say, "buhao isi" and the problem you've created supposedly goes away. But that card cannot be played too much. |

| I wouldn't even let the kids do it although kids will be kids behind your back. That's to be expected. But in the classroom if find it totally disrespectful for them to actually sit there and laugh about a teachers name right in front of the teacher. |

Yeah mate - my surname is Hughes and I absolutley agree with you on the fact that looking at it now - the ball is in my court - The thing is though is that I have lost any respect I had for them and it is going to be hard to keep check on my lack of respect fr these next 4 months - I know they can screw me on the severance and the flight ticket back home.
The PE teacher has come over and apologized and he said he thought it was my actual given name! Thats how bad it was! The wankers in charge have introduced me as 'Hughzy' - I suppose it is funny in a way on how ridiculous and childish these cretins are. |

| I know how it feels to find out your coworkers have little respect for you and are fake pieces of crap infront of your face. Look on the bright side that it`ll be over soon. Silently loath them and get your money, ticket and them shame/tar and feather the school... |
