ALL recruiters are paid by the hagwons or by GEPIK/EPIK/SMOE/EPIG.
IF a recruiter claims that YOU, a legal teacher in Korea, need to pay them 1 million won or other money, because schools can't pay them, then that's a LIE.  They are only trying to steal your money.
Go to another recruiter. |

Are recruiters still trying this? What sparked this post? Did someone ask you to pay a recruitment fee?
I know it has been an ongoing problem with South African-based recruiters. |

It's happening with others, including some Daejeon-based recruiters in Korea, too.

Unless it's for a college or uni position.
It's not normal for these establishments to pay recruiters as there have so many applicants. |

that's right - they don't bother using RECRUITERS EITHER!!!
listen to Wylies - don't pay recruiters!!
and none of them have any more connections with public schools other than the public schools such as Seoul Metro Office of Edu which contracts specific recruiters to hire - some schools may go on their own (this is everywhere in K) to find a foreign teacher - but then they will pay a recruiter, not you,

| Reminds me of this scam site that offers "adventures" overseas and has a whole list of jobs that they can set you up with in a variety of countries at a low low price of 2-3k. |

Well, it is happening in Korea. This hasn't happened to me, but to others I know who've recently been through job searches in Korea. Examples?
There's a recruiter telling applicants that they need to pay 1 million won extra to the recruiter for public school or college teaching jobs because those jobs are "more coveted."
There's also a recruiter telling applicants that he works for 100,000 won per week, until he finds applicants a job. He'll wait for payment out of the first paycheck.
There's other attempts to get "fees", but most applicants must laugh at these.
Don't believe it? Make up a sock and contact different recruiters and see how many recruiters attempt to cheat applicants. Oh, the lies they use. |

There is a guy in Vancouver with a fancy office that does job recruiting. When you go there he says that he can get you a 6 figure income and has so many contacts.
He asks for a one time fee of $5000 on the first visit. Only one peson has ever taken him to court and CFun radio even lets him do a job finding program every week. |
