I use Nonghyup and it is a bastards ass to use time outs, passwords and keywords and secret codes up the yin yang..Yah Im pissed right now, just blew over an hour ******* with the overseas transfers that ended up unsuccessful.
I would like to know, from someone that has experience with overseas transfers, if KEB has a simpler and more straightforward interface.
Anyone, please ? |

keb internet banking is easier than nonghyup. keb also has a direct remittance account that you transfer money in to and it is instantly sent to a foreign account. you have to go to a branch to set it up because of the info required for your foreign account. once its done, then you can transfer funds to overseas through the account from any bank machine - and i think you save a couple bucks per transfer as well
if you go there to get a remittance account set up, then you might as well get their global debit card, too. works overseas for up to $50 000 in withdrawals. keb is the only bank that is changing policies and catering to foreigners banking needs outside korea. Standard chartered is a close second for global debit, but i think its still hit or miss on a branch by branch basis.
i have a press release from keb that outlines their new policies for foreigners if anyone is denied at their branch and wants something to show them to update them on their own policies.... |

Mr. ambling it only gets worse, but good luck to you
I dont understand the need for all these passwords and
secret cards ?!? My bank in Canada is so simple, card number and password-done, no more extra passwords or secret code **** after
you log in like in Nonghyup.
Does anyone know why they seem to overdo it here ?
So far, the baking in Canada is safe enough. Why squeeze
the donkeys balls harder than you have to ?
I would have smashed my computer, but I just bought it and
it is pretty sweet
Just venting

If overseas remittances can be done automatically
through the atm, then this seems infinitely easier than
Nonghyups procedures.
Oculis, is the set up- passwords, number cards and
such- the same with KEB ? |

you can set up international transfers for directly from atm, but i recommend the direct remittance account. if you choose to set up for only atm transfer, youre limited to keb atm's. you have to go to the branch to set up either. its the same as transferring money from one korean account to another at an atm -- except as soon as it hits the second account, its bounced to your foreign account that you provided the info for when you made the account.
go to the branch, ask to set up a foreign remittance account, give them all the info about your foreign bank -- name, branch number, address (MAYBE), account number, and swift number. they have you sign some stuff and give you a new passbook for your new account. you can then transfer money from the atm or online. |

The procedure you noted is easier. For this reason alone I will set this up.
The other part of my question was about the usual log in procedure
looking at past transfers and things like that. With NH i constantly have
to input my ACC #, which yield nothing for overseas transaction records, etc... but that's besides the point.
anyways , thanks.. |

keb's online login and transfer procedure is still a bit of a pain, but slightly less than nonghyup's. i have and use both right now, but will be culling nonghyup very soon. |

with KB you just need to master the secret handshake
(I've sent tens of thousands of dollars back home over the years with them) |

I will take the secret handshake over what I
deal with using NH
On a side note- i cashed in my coins today. The lady
tried to sleeve 11,000 won from my treasure chest !
The second machine was 'mixed - up' says she....
So..always make them count it thrice |

The internet banking on KEB is quite simple. I use it all the time. Just use IE and you are good to go. If I so desired, I could wire money home within the next 3 minutes flat. It is simple once you set it up. Go to the site. Log in. Click transfer. Confirm. Why is that so difficult. It is easier than using the ATM. |

I have accounts at NH and KEB. At KEB I have a Global account and standard account, because (I was told) I can't transfer funds from another Korean bank account directly to my Global account. I can't transfer funds from my standard KEB account to my Global KEB account online or over the phone, so it seems I still have to get to a branch if I want to make a transfer to my US account. (Which sucks because I live 2 hours and 8000won from the nearest branch and work 9-5.) Do make sure you use Internet Explorer for KEB's online banking, none of my other browsers seem to work.
Good luck. If anyone has been able to transfer between 2 KEB accounts online, please let us know. |
