I have an LG prepaid phone. They shut it off the day my E2 visa expired. They tell me I need an alien registration number to turn it back on. However, I am currently on a C4 visa, for which there is no alien registration number.
Anyone know how I can get my stupid phone turned back on?? I have no problem switching companies or lying as needed. |

Do you have a korean friend or co-teacher with whom you have excellent rapport?
That's how my friend got around it. |

| You had some kind of phone contract that ran out the same time as the visa. I'm pretty sure you can get another contract based on your passport ... but then, the regs may have changed - before ARC's and contracts based on E2 visas specifically became the norm at LG, passports were accepted. Can't understand the underlying problem though since it's pay as you go ... |

I remember reading somewhere that you could have a 3 month contract if you did not have an alien registration card. Unfortunately, I can't find that information now. You can supposedly get help registering for a phone at the Seoul Global Center (http://global.seoul.go.kr/global/view/gbcenter/gbc01_03.jsp) It is located in the Seoul Press Center Building, near City Hall.:
# LG Telecom
# URL : www.lgtelecom.com
# Tel : 1544-0010 (press # for an English Service)
# Or simply visit the LG Telecom registration desk at the Seoul Global Center.
# SK Telecom
# URL : www.sktelecom.com/eng
# Tel : 080-2525-0111 (English representative)
# KTF
# URL : www.ktf.com
# Tel : 1588-0010 (press # and 0, then request an English representative) |

I use prepay KTF and was unable to add money to my account after my ARC expired. Thankfully I had added sufficient money before the deadline to keep my phone working after the ARC expired. Still, I found myself in Korea, with no phone, for 3 days. I showed KTF my extended VISA, but they didn't care. It was all about the ARC. I didn't think it was worth getting my ARC restamped for 3 days of service.
I then went home for 3 weeks and came back on a new VISA. Had to wait 2 weeks for my ARC before adding money to my phone. So was phoneless for 2 weeks then. It's a nutty system but KTF refused to help me.
Getting a Korean friend to help out is a good way to do it.
Next time I'll prepay my phone for 3 months and pray KTF doesn't cut off my service when I exit the country (possibility). IF they don't, I'll have my phone working the minute I land in Korea. |

| I just want to up my minutes. Now I have the cheapest (monthly) plan, it's only 14,000 or so per mo. I want to see what the plan that allows you the most minutes would cost per mo. Anyone know how to contact KTF Englishree speaking rep? Can't seem to find any info at their site though. |

| Can you rent a phone at the airport, but turn it in to a shop in Seoul (or other city) later instead of at the airport? |
