Hi,
I am looking into buying a new tv. I am looking for someone who knows a lot about these and can help me choose the right one. I have been looking in the stores here (E-Mart, Hi Mart, etc.) and I'm becoming overwhelmed with all the options, the apparent similarities and the (sometimes) HUGE different in prices. What do you know or think about the following:
LG vs. Samsung vs other
PDP vs. LCD vs. other
HD vs. FullHD
720 vs 1080
new vs. used vs. floor model
and then other things like speakers, watts, hertz, ratio
Basically, what is important, what should I avoid, what do you have and are you happy with it? Are they easy to hang or better to get a stand? What do you know about bringing it back to the States someday - transport costs? will it work at home? converter?
Thanks, I know I didn't really ask anything specific, but any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers |

Rule #1: NEVER buy from an LG or Samsung botique store on the street. They are highly overpriced.
Rule #2: Only buy from a Hi-Mart if they're having a special sale (and prices match internet prices -- good luck).
Rule #3: First shop www.enuri.com or shopping.naver.com and check for prices on a model you like. Print out the specs. Then go shopping around in Yongsan's I-park mall and ET Land. Prices will vary a great deal for the same thing, but you may be able to find a deal similar to the internet price.
Rule #4: If you don't find a better price than what you see on the internet, then check the comments -- make sure they've got lots of positive feedback -- and just buy from there.
I've owned 4 of these TV's. We currently have 2. It doesn't matter where you buy from, if they're a new unit, they pretty much all come direct from either store backstock or the LG/Samsung/etc. warehouse. As for service, the same LG/Samsung/etc. service guys come out and service your TV no matter where you bought it from. So there's no reason to pay more money to one store over another thinking you'll get more service. I bought from an LG store thinking that, and got royally screwed when I tried to exchange it. They flat-out refused to do anything buy give me another model of their crappy TV (or a cheaper model).
Those LG/Samsung botique stores are good for viewing merchandise and laughing at insane price tags, but that's about it. Hi-Mart (I call it Hi-priced Mart) isn't much better, but at least there, they might let you exchange for another company's TV if you have issues. |
