Be cool if they did move the capital. Then Seoul could be the NY of Korea and some other city could be the Washington DC of Korea. |
Actually, some other city would by the Albany. |

In australia's case the built the captial in the middle of nowhere. Sydney and melbourne are great cities despite the absence of the federal pollies.
In new zealand wellington isn't even the second most populous city.

after Sydney and Melbourne fighting over who should be the capital city, they decided to build one in the middle of the two... but I think its too close to Sydney.... its not really in the middle.
It also has one of the smaller population in terms of Australian cities.
I say they need to do something, even if its offer tax breaks for comapnies to relocate their head offices in other cities. Or move certain industries out of Seoul... too many people move here from their hometowns.
There is too much of a population difference between the largest and second largest cities. |

Osong, Asan, or Changgi, the likely candidates.
Which has the best ring? |

I couldn't even imagine how much it will cost to build a new international airport. No doubt, they would have to build another. I think Daejon might make a good candidate because the local government there is constructing a subway. |

I think moving the capital to be a very good idea and have felt for a long time that it should be moved. having your capital city in range of enemy artillery isn't a very good idea.
also it will get a lot of money out of seoul and into the other cities in korea. well maybe it will do this. if it does it will be a god send to the rest of korea which is practically straving outside of seoul and a few of the big cities. |

You're right...Pres. Ding-dong wants it to be in Asan....and a new city is being built not but a click away from my land...ewwwwww.
It better not be Asan, as they'll take my land for next-to-nothing. The government is also imposing a 40% tax on any land sold/bought.....yeah, scraps the idea of selling before they thieve my land. Also, don't want all the hustle and bustle in my neck -o de woods....I like fresh air and greenery!
Shoosh,
Ryst

This whole debate is silly. They SK government should make a public statement that once the evil Americans leave, and NK takes over, the capital will be wherever the NK regime decides.
Neat, tidy, and everybody's happy. Politicians here have more to worry about (like getting bribe money from the Chaebol and then publicly crucifying eachother) than these trivial things. |

I believe someone mentioned it before. Seoul remained the captial of South Korea after the Korean War because it is bascailly in the middle of the country if unification ever occured. Personally, I don't think Roh will be able to move the captial because of the oppostion to it. The costs of moving would be astronomical and makes little sense. |

Whatever happened to that oldest of decision making tools, Rochambeau? Or hell, even eeny-meeny-miney-moe, thumb wrestling, or bare knuckle boxing could have solved the problem. |

I don't think that moving the capital to a place like Masan or Kyongju that have significant natural beauty is a good idea. The development and urban sprawl that would be created would ruin the character of these places. |

I think the should move the capital building to Cheongyanmni. It has everything a Korean man could want: Trains, buses, hookers....
But seriously, where is all the flap about how desperate the Koreans are to move their gov't buildings on the South side of the mountain, where the US military base is? I heard that Koreans really wanted that area for that. |
