my first gig in K I worked only 6 hours a day but there were 8 classes, just 5 minute breaks between them.
by the end of that year I swore I'd never do that many classes at a time - ever ever again - it's just impossible - it has nothing to do with the money - you can't teach that many different classes and give the same quality time to the last 2-3 that you did to the first 2-3 - it just isn't happening.
and the meetings every day? wanna take bets on what language they're speaking?
oh yeah baby sign me up |

I don't know. It doesn't seem all that bad to me. I would probably do it for a year if the timing was right. Putting money in the bank is my first priority right now. |

For this month, the job would only pay 15,000 won/class.
I guarantee you that the academy is making money hand over fist. They're paying the teacher about 4.5 million if you factor in severance, flight, pension, etc. while getting about 20 in tuition just for that teacher's classes.
Total rip off. And it's not 4.5 if you count having to work national holidays and Saturdays because you'll be climbing the walls. The vaction looks sketchy to me.
You'd be working two and half jobs or, to give them the benefit of the doubt, 2 jobs for 1.7 million each.
Total crap. |

I don't think I'd do it for the pay. It is a bonus that they pay all utilities and all insurance but those really are not that much money.
The schedule doesn't seem overly bad to me. I've been doing 52 classes a week for a few years now but not for 3.5 mil. I do like their vacation though if it really is 2 6 day periods.
Seems like a tough job but also seems the school knows it and is honest about it. It would take an experienced teacher to handle the load. You would need to able to crank out a lesson plan in just a few minutes . No newby just off the boat would make it 6 months.
At the same time, any teacher, capable of handling that schedule, that is making less than 5 mil a month ought to just hang it up and go home. 3.5 mil just isn't worth it. |

The total direct teacher cost would be over 5 million, including pension, airfare, housing etc..
The total maximum legal tuition for those classes, based on 4 in a class, would be under 10 million.
Of course, there would be classes that fell under 4 students from time to time, plus the families that pay late or never.
And then, there are the costs of running the school: rent, utilities etc.
This school is NOT making big money unless they are charging over the maximum allowed tuition per student. |

Depends if they stick to some four-student rule. I wouldn't if it were my business. I'd have seven-eight kids in there.

From what I have found in Korea interest is not compounded. Also, if you take this job you should have your own accounts set up independent of the school. |

How much would you do it for? Just curious, for those hours, what would you ask for? |
27 million, which is why I realized I likely can't ever work in Korea. |

A person would have to be superhuman to do that schedule for long (working at ANY field/job). I have to figure nobody resigns for a second year. |
They were looking for someone less than a year ago. Doesn't mean someone quit necessarily, since they have more than one. I remember it because I briefly considered and went as far as doing the math. |

Probably English since three of the five teachers are native speakers. |

I was recently offered a job for 3.2 that was 2:20-8:40, M-F. 10 days holiday and all the normal benefits.
Jobs like that still exist but they can be a little hard to come by. |

One of the kids at my public school told me today that he goes there. He's one of my smarter students. Not an English genius, but by Seosan standards he's pretty good. |

How messed up would your life have to be back home to take this sucker job?
You can teach three 1-on-1 privates a day, 5 days a week and make more. That's being conservative. |
