Have any of you tried these courses?

What did you think of them, how good were they compered to say a CELTA?

Have they improved your teaching ability?

I'm thinking of doing either the 100 or 120 hour course.

I'm not bothered about being able to make more money I want to do this as a way to improve my teaching.

Then you should not consider (or continue to) work in K-land. Wink

After posting, I received the following from Dr. Wayne Bottiger at KEI-SIE. He wants to clarify that he is not the owner of KEI-SIE, but works with them. Just to clarify, he is most certainly not the owner, but he is involved with the onlinbe program.

He asked me to edit my previous posting, which he feels is defamatory. If my previous comments were inaccurate, then I apologize.

To learn more about KEI-SIE, please visit the school's website at:
http://www.koredinco.com/

To learn more about a very enlightening public discussion regarding KEI-SIE, please visit:
http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=29837

This is directly from Dr. Wayne Bottiger:

'You should probably edit you post concerning me, or else be prepared for a defamation lawsuit against you. I have told people in the past I am involved with the online program which I am, but I am not the owner. Your opinion is your opinion, but don't go on to this or any other forum and post my name with derogatory remarks about what I do or do not do. I will be contacting the mods and Dave Sperling personally about this misinformation. Thank you.'

Let's put it this way. The ONLY place KEISIE courses are recognized is in Korea. KEISIE used to be simply KEI -- Korean Education Incorporated. It's essentially a 2 person operation. A Korean "owner" and Wayne Bottiger, it's "chair" of education....although since there are no other people affiliated with KIESIE...I wonder what he chairs.
The external website is very ramshackle and somewhat evasive in terms of the school's accreditation, meaning it still isn't. It is recognized/authorized by the Korean Ministry of Education, and "authorized" as an online education business by the state of Arkansas in the USA, so keep this in mind.
OK, for content, I am not overly impressed. The TEFL certificate is divided into some 18 lessons, each composed of a few pages of reading, exercises, and mini-tests. It's more about classroom management than anything else, in my opinion.
Try this link to get access. I don't know how long its validity is, though:

The reality of the KEI-TEFL certificate's existence is that, because the Korean MOE recognizes it, Korean ESL public school teachers qualify for a 100,000 a month increase in salary. You do the math: 200,000 won for the certificate = 1,200,000 more won per year.

It's an economically motivated piece of paper....not an academic one.

Thank you for that.

Anyone know of any decent courses that will help with actually with teaching?

If Dr. Wayne Bottiger continues to read this thread, I would appreciate if he could explain to Dave's ESL Cafe readers as to why he felt the need to threaten me with a defamation lawsuit.

My previous comments can be found in this thread, and I simply would like to know why you feel so threatened. If my comments are in any way inaccurate, please correct me, and I take full responsibility for setting the record straight. If my comments more likely just reflect my opinion, you are always welcome to a rebuttal in a clear and transparent fashion.

As for requesting that the moderators of this Cafe remove my comments, and appealing directly to Dave Sperling himself for the same reasons, ...well, I think that is just silly.

I do not have the highest regard for the academic content of your 100 hour TEFL certificate. But if it got me a 1,200,000 Won annual raise at work, I just may sign up myself. Why would you object to that?

Doesn't sound like it's worth it to me. Get a CELTA, you can use it back home as well. I made the mistake of getting an Oxford TESL which turned out to mean squat in Canada. Basically I spent 1000$ on crap. Don't make the same mistake as me.

He threatened to sue me after I wrote a review of KEI-TEFL on here, too.

If your comments about our company and me, using my name directly in this forum do not stop, I assure you I will do my best here in Korea to sue you for slander as well as defamation of character, and trust me, I know enough people to get the job done.

You took our course and then took another course you liked better, END OF STORY. This incessant rant about all the reasons why you think your training is the best are nothing but dribble. Unlike you, I say these things to you alone, because I have integrity, BUT I remember, you don't.

Don't bother erasing the post information you put in, because I copied it and sent it directly to Dave and the Mods so they could see what was said by you. Have a nice life
