I really enjoyed the Watchmen movie. I had read the graphic novel so I knew what to expect and I knew that the ending was changed and I have to say it didn't take anything away from what Moore originally depicted.
With what I would say 50% of the audience not having read the novel I think that had a giant squid been the bomb that they would have had a WTF moment and it really would have confused them. The way it was done in the movie was perfectly fine.

That said new news on the Iron Man 2 front:

Mickey Rourke is some new Russian bad guy (didn't catch the name) and Scarlett Johansen will be getting into some really tight leather outfit to portray the Black Widow. Looking good.

Can't believe I'm hearing this! Or reading it! Cool movie but the psychic squid would have been way better. Sure if they just shoved it in there it may have been a problem. But what they replaced it with made even less sense. The point of the squid was that it also released a mass psychic induced public fear. There were hints through out the book to genetic engineering etc. They could have made it work. Maybe an alternative ending for the Blue Ray, I hope. They could also chuck in the pirate story. Still a great movie with characters that will be talked about for a long time to come. I'm sure with the cash they are making a prequel will probably come out(which I'd be wary of).

The pirate movie was released as a cartoon on dvd and blu-ray the week of Watchmen opening. I am sure it will be an extra on the dvd.

I think you really need to understand a few things in order to fully appreciate the Watchmen.

1. You need to have understood just how groundbreaking the Watchmen, as a comic book, was. If you never read comic books during that era, and never saw the impact the Watchmen had on comic books, then you can't appreciate it.

I compare it to Citizen Kane. Someone who's seen Citizen Kane wouldn't understand why its such a great movie, unless they saw other movies before its time.

2. You need to have read the graphic novels.

I like to compare this to Lord of the Rings trilogy. If no one had read Tolkien's novels, they wouldn't see how incredible the feat was to put that story on the big screen.



I never read the Watchmen. So when I saw the movie, I struggled through it. A couple times I thought about walking out of the movie. i'm sure if I had read the graphic novels, and had understood the importance of the Watchmen, then I would've enjoyed the movie much better.

I thought it was alright. The beginning was really slow and the characters were all kinda boring, but other than that it was a decent film.

there were lots of almost seat squirming moments in it, like the very graphic sex scene with hallelujah playing in the background. It was also really funny and weird to see dr manhattan just walking around with his *beep* out throughout the movie, it even moved from side to side when he walked anywhere

All in all it was a good movie, but when my g.f asked me my opinion on it, the only word i could think to describe it was "odd", she agreed
