I'm considering teaching in Korea, but my degree will be a 3-year BSc (yes, we have 3-year Bachelor's in Canada). However, I've only seen Australian and UK listed as the exceptions to 4-year degrees. Would immigration accept 3-year degrees from Canada?

My degree will read "Bachelor of Science in Biology", so it doesn't mention the years it took, cf the "Bachelor of Science in Biology Four Year Program" that my university awards.

Thanks!

I'm here on a 3 year BA from York in Toronto.
Many recruiters will tell you that you can't teach in Korea on that degree, just don't mention that it's a 3 year degree to them when applying... just say that you have a BA (or BSc or whatever) from a Canadian university. I was a little worried so I emailed about 20 recruiters and of those responded about half told me I couldn't teach in Korea and half told me I could and one of them explained that in Korea they don't have a 3 year degree, so the recruiters are confused by Canada's 3 year degrees.

I had to send my original degree to Korea along with sealed transcripts (1 transcript was opened by the Consulate in Toronto) and there were no problems.

Yeah, it's okay with immigration but some jobs might not like it. I sure don't put "3-year BA" on my resume. I just say BA, so I can get an interview in and not have my resume junked for not having the right degree. I have yet to have a job change their mind about hiring me after seeing it.

Just reread your post... shit, if it doesn't even SAY 3 year BSc on it, you are GOLDEN. They (the employer, immigration doesn't care) will only know if they ask for a copy of your transcripts and bother to look at them.

Nothing wrong with 3-year degrees at Immigration. They had to change the requirements when the Brits argued for their 3-year BAs.

If it's a Bachelor's, whether 3- or 4-year, Immigration will take it.

Yeah... nobody at Immi can/be bothered to, read your transcript anyway. Wink

I am very reassured now! I guess this is something I can really start looking into, then Smile

Next step is to start accustoming the parents to the idea.... Mad

Does it matter? I think in Canada they basically fork out degrees to anybody that can fork out the cash, you don't actually go to schools or do any work. Canadians don't like to work hard.

I can't speak for other Canucks, but certainly I don't. That's why I have a PS job in K-land - it affords me enough 'free time' to make inane postings on 'Dave's' and get my southern neighbours all riled up with national sentiment/patriotism. Wink

Spoken like someone who very likely never went to a real university.

An example of trolling on Dave's ESL ad Canadian baiting. It's old and a violation of the TOS.
