Hey All.

Has anyone successfully gotten an E-2 visa with a temporary diploma or letter from the registrar rather than their degree? I finished my degree in December, but because of a stupid school regulation, I won't get my official degree until June. Seoul told me that a letter would suffice, then someone new got hired and is now saying that it won't.

Also, myself and three other teachers are probably going to lose our contracts before we even get there because this same guy at immigration decided to stop the processing on our visas because the school that hired us had an infraction years ago for hiring a teacher on the wrong type of visa. Apparently he wants to make an example of the school.

So unless they change their minds and issue it by the end of the day, I'm stuck in Canada with nothing but a packed suitcase, since I already sold everything I own and quit my job.

According to the Immi/G4F website, instead of your original degree (or a copy verified by a Korean embassy/consulate), you can submit either:

"- Certificate of academic degree issued by the relevant university. (Affixed with an apostile or attached with documents verifying the highest education, issued by domestic verification agency).
- Certificate of graduation that lists acquisition of diploma. (Affixed with an apostile or attached with documents verifying the highest education, issued by domestic verification agency)."

Because you are Canadian, you cannot get an apostile and would have to have the certificate verified by the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE).

The above is the official, Immigration policy. However, this being K-land, official policy is almost meaningless... individual Immi offices/branches and officers do as they please - depending on their mood - and just 'make up' any 'rules', 'regulations' or 'policies' as they see fit. Rolling Eyes
