|
|
Ok, I put this under "work" because I am seriously intested why
Korean women go to University and graduate with Master's degrees.
I have seen this agian and agian. I have met Korean women in
the USA working for there Master's Degrees, then they hurry
up to get married before 30 to stay home; and raise families !!!!!!
and not work !!
At the same time, Korean men say they are looking for an "educated"
woman. Why, if they just stay at home?????
I seriously want to know about this !!
Thanks! |

One of the first lessons in korea is to stop asking "why". |

Why does a foreigner question people wanting to get smarter? Without all the pondering, there are 2 camps of people in the world. Those that are curious about life and learn and those who watch life on a big screen.
Women I have met in Korea are going to a university for independent reasons. They don't have it on their agenda to be homebodies. They have clearly a set agenda, and if your plans run parallel with theirs then there is a greater chance of a relationship working.
In fact, it is more of a determining factor as to who will stay home with their children. I know one Korean guy who doesn't make as much money as his wife. She goes all the way up to Seoul station from Suwon every day. His parents live upstairs, so they babysit when he gets work.
I sense there is more of this lifestyle here in Korea than in Japan. With the economy as the way it is, a family is going to go under the wings of the one bringing in the most money. Of course, a guy may not want to admit this and make up stuff like, "I want an interesting wife".
You don't get interesting people from a brain factory. |

last week I was chatting to a korean woman at a market research conference in London, She is quite high up in a very big korean market research company ( i won't mention their name) and she was very well educated and had a great career too, so it's not that all women want to stay at home, it's jst the ones you seem to interact with. |

1. Do you want a stupid person staying home raising your kids?
2. marketability... gotta sell yourself to the highest bidder, so you've gotta make the package as desirable as possible (adding little bonus')
3. Ego... You've gotta have something to brag about to other women who stay home. You're a cut above the others.
4. A lot of them don't stay home... just the ones who have time to sit around and talk to foreigners. |

Because they want everyone to think that they're kids will be educated. It's an image thing. Family history is an important in Korea. |

I'll tell you why OP.
Its because one woman's husband paid to have his wife go overseas to get a master's degree.
That woman told her friends. And those friends told those friends.
So, now you have millions of Korean women complaining to their boyfriend/husbands.
"My friend's boyfriend/husband paid for her to get her master's degree. I want to do it too. And if you don't do it, then that means you don't care about me and I will find another man."
Yes. That is how it works in Korea. Some Korean girl hears about some other woman who has it better than she does, and she whines NONSTOP about wanting the same thing.
I remember this one girl told me, "My coworker's cousin has a gyopo boyfriend and he bought her a 4 carat engagement ring. How come my gyopo boyfriend won't buy me a 4 carat engagement ring."

Aside from getting a MRS degree.....not going to college means you'll be spending the next 4-10+ years after working at lotte mart and living at home until marriage....and living at home sucks here because your parents still treat you like a child and even have curfews if your a girl. |

While you're inquiring about the educated housewives, why don't you post on a North American board and ask why people take religious studies degrees? Is it possible that some people attend university to expand their knowledge? |

7. A way to get out of the house in the short and long term. Could even lead to a permanent departure if they landed an international job. |
