I have a former student who graduated from college last year. He wants to come to Korea to teach. Does anyone have a good recruiter they'd like to recommend? |

Tell your ex-student to pepper the entire market with his resume', including all recruiters and all job boards. Have him create a separate e-mail account to sift through the good and the bad info that will flow in.
Have him read the FAQs about what to look for in a JOB, which is considerably more important than what to look for in a recruiter. Recruiters for Korean jobs are about as good as Korean real estate agencies; they're only as good as the one or two decent places they may happen to have when you hit them up. |

...and any 'work' they may have to do to skim their cut is considered an inconvenience. |

I agree with Pragic. Recruiters, for the most part, just want to get their cut and get out. They are headhunters. Schools or academies will use many recruiters to find what they are looking for, as should you. Don't put your hopes in one agency, they are looking out for their best interest. Your friend could also post his resume on many of the ESL boards, he will then be contacted by tons of recruiters.
The most valuable advice Pragic gave was to open a new email account, because there is going to be a barrage of emails coming in.
If you want names of recruiters, or contacts, just look at the Job listing forums. |

I agree with PRagic if he wants to go the hagwon route. And definitely set up a separate e-mail address because you will get a ton of mail, most of which is BS.
If he's looking into public school, I'd recommend WorkNPlay. I used them and I thought they were really great. They always got back to me super fast and gave me all the information I needed. Plus I got a ~beautiful~ hat from them. Talking to some people at orientation, it seems like they're one of the better recruiters for PS, too. |

I recommend Claire at ESLstarter if they're looking for public school - she was very helpful through my whole process of getting over here and helping me deal with the EPIK application and the visa paperwork.
I agree that recruiters are only around for one reason, but if you have to deal with one, it's nice to have one that responds to emails. |

Alistair at www.koreanhorizons.com was really friendly and helpful. I have absolutely no complaints. I'm pretty sure he only deals with public schools, though. |

Recommend him too, very helpful even after he places you.
I think he does deal with Hagwons as I met a guy that worked at one who went with Alistair, I'm pretty sure he prefers the public school placements though. |

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I know a guy who went through him for a hagwon job too. |

I would personally recommend James at ESL411.com. He'll stick around and make sure you're doing well. A lot of the teachers he has placed get together about once or twice a month in Itaewon to hang out. Good way to make some friends and get a good job around Seoul. |

You could check w/ Ask Now. www.asknow.ca
I've worked w/ them a little bit and it's not bad. They are very helpful and willling to answer all questions, often sending you little tips and updates about your stay in Korea etc. |
