I'm trying to figure out if Cyberguy is actually a Hitchens-type, pretending to be the stereotypical idea of a misogynistic, homophobic multiculturalist. Or if he really is the genuine article.

I'm trying to figure out if he really teaches English, or even has it as a first language.

Sorry but I see 1000 times bigger issues than 5 or 10 people being penalized each year in Iran. In USA, there is one rape every 32 seconds. What does it say to you? Is anybody talking about that? NO, cuz everybody is busy in freaking out about Iran

Cyberguy:

I was not referring to your focus on American as opposed to Iranian shortcomings. I was referring to your use of derogatory slurs in reference to gay people and(on another thread) children born out-of-wedlock.

In Iran there is no statistical analysis of the number of rapes committed every second, although it is suspected to be above base against the USA honestly. 1 every 25 or so seconds I'd think. The treatment of women as property and the complete elimination of all of their rights by your religious conservatives and even religious liberals, leads me to believe that the number is probably even higher.
And you call yourself a Guy, more like a little boy.

NO, cuz everybody is busy in freaking out about Iran (ironic enough when most of them cant even pronounce the name of this country correctly and cant even locate it on the world map, but they consider themselves some experts on the issues related to Iran)

BUT, I am fully aware of the reasons behind such brainwashing. Please have a look at it and see for yourself:

Same is the "thumb rule" in talking about any subject related to Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Not a chance on either count. His English is as whacky as his world views.

CG.

Update your facts.

http://content.cricinfo.com/rsavaus2009/content/squad/394683.html

There's a muslim, an Indian with a muslim name and at least two blacks/colors. All picked on merit.

You might find that in some countries different sports appeal to different nationalities. In NZ for example, we have very very few maoris or Pacificas in the cricket team (about 10% or less) but they make up about 50% or more of the All Blacks, which is by far the higher profile side.

Racism is something that South Africa is leaving behind, at least in an institutional form.

Debra Dickerson weighs in:
Quote:

In South Africa, which already boasts one of the world's highest rape rates, black lesbians are being targeted for particularly brutal assaults. The frequent victims of gang assaults and hideous torture, the government does absolutely nothing. One woman spoke of her gang-rapists taunting her with the "classic lesson" they were imparting during her 2003 abduction. At least she survived. And damned if she isn't still living her life as an out and proud lesbian and high-profile "footballer." Where do Third World women find the courage?

The government, even in the case of a rare prosecution, refuses to acknowledge that lesbians are being specifically targeted. Called "corrective rape" by human rights workers (i.e. rape meant to set the lesbos straight), pressure is mounting for the judiciary there to dub attacks on lesbians hate crimes and forcefully prosecute these criminals. Good luck.

FromThe Guardian:

"The partially clothed body of Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa's acclaimed Banyana Banyana national female football squad, was found in a creek in a park in Kwa Thema, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Simelane had been gang-raped and brutally beaten before being stabbed 25 times in the face, chest and legs. As well as being one of South Africa's best-known female footballers, Simelane was a voracious equality rights campaigner and one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian in Kwa Thema.

Her brutal murder took place last April, and since then a tide of violence against lesbian women in South Africa has continued to rise...Now, a report by the international NGO ActionAid, backed by the South African Human Rights Commission, condemns the culture of impunity around these crimes, which it says are going unrecognised by the state and unpunished by the legal system.

If South Africa isn't going to prosecute crime, should the women there, straight and gay, go commando and start parceling out justice on their own?

Hmm.....Lets hail the West.

1. South Africa is not really part of the 'West'.

2. How are homosexuals treated in Muslim countries (they are executed in Iran) and what is your opinion about such treatment?

A straight answer would be nice.

2- How many homos have been put to death in Iran? I could count on my fingers.

Furthermore, even if anything done by Iran is bad, how does it make Iran a synonym of Islam??

I see you did not give an answer to my question. What is your opinion on the death penalty for homsexuality? Also, what is your opinion on apostasy being a crime?

No, diversions, no ducking, just be a man and state your honest opinion on these matters.

Iran has a population of around 11% or so that is homosexual, among the highest in the middle east,

I don't suppose you would be possible to source that stat now, would you? We cannot even get accurate numbers on the prevalence of homosexuality in the West, yet we are to believe in a figure of two significant digits in a place where homosexulaity is punishable by death???

I think not.

I think BC makes a good point. I'd be suspicious of stats compiled in Iran on this issue (whether is be more or less than 11%).
