| What was with the amount of overtime today, all 5 of the games I had went to O/T or S/O. freaky. |
except boston, but yes some interesting comebacks. 5 went to shootouts and 2 were settled in OT (like the canes should've done ). quite the contrast to last week with the blowouts (car 9 tb 3; cbj 8 det 2; nyi 7 nj 3) and only 1 game had a one point difference, another 2, and the rest 3 or more. this week had 8 one point games, 4 two points (two were empty net goals), and 1 three points (empty netter). |

Hanson, et al....
Next Saturday only has 8 games. Can we add some choices to that so we're all not basically betting on the same teams? Sunday has some good matches (phily@pitts; nj@bost; and edm@minn-playoff spot). What do yas think about it?
PS: Hanson, I just stepped out of the penthouse suite to get the marshalls (Canes) to evict you but I see you got some people (Caps) to change the lock. I'll see if I can get my hands on a special weapon (ever see 'No Country For Old Men'? ). Guess I'll need some barricades if I ever make it back in....she's heating up in the final stretch. |

My apologies for the lateness of this post...
Taking roknroll's advice, we'll go with all the weekend games!! That's 8 games on Saturday and 7 games on Sunday. We're still picking only 5 games... Please separate your picks by day (Sat/Sun) since several teams are playing twice.

Atlanta @ Tampa Bay
Vancouver @ Phoenix
SUNDAY:

Montreal/Ottawa/Vancouver/NY Rangers/Tampa Bay
btw, it's the *THE BIG ESLCAFE NHL SATURDAY NIGHT PICK 5 - 2008-09* contest NOT the sunday contest...the sunday one is another thread.
sure, trivialize and strip the essential integrity of a great Dave's ESL Cafe tradition... yet, last i checked, isn't picking only SATURDAY NIGHT games NO MATTER how few (and there has never been fewer than 6 NHL games played on a SATURDAY NIGHT) the goddam challenge behind the contest? the whole idea is when the games are few, the picks are few and that's when the men are men and the women are women and the true ice blue, die hard NHL fans rise to the occasion?
rules are fuckin' rules are they not? it sorta brings a sense of secure equilibrium into our lives, n'est-ce pas?
gee, kids today... |

i agree entirely
and would add:
RULES SHOULD BE CHANGED WITH PLENTY OF FORESIGHT if at all, once a game is going. Last minute changes the very same week is mickey mouse.
many of us don't check this thread more than once or twice a week
so it's not like we had time to object when this idea was floated. it is an idea out of the blue. one shows up to make one's picks for the week and whammo, the entire premise of the game has been changed.
But let's let Hanson do what he wants. It's his game, his rules. He wants to change them. So be it. We need not take this too seriously.
what a season!
The important thing is to get engaged about hockey. Though discussion around this thing hasn't been ideal. It's at least something. Remember: we're in a country of nonhockey fans. It seems like every gwaddang sport in the world is accepted by Koreans except hockey. 'Too violent' they say. But they watch K1 and numerous other kick the guy in the head shows. Bah....
Let's just get past this week and keep the rules as they were for the remainder of the season. I think we can all agree on that? |

OK, I've totally had enough of Dave's AND this thread. Somebody else take over the pool. I'm done. I will not be checking this thread or posting on Dave's again.
G'night! |
