foreign language high schools....
does anyone currently teach at one, or has anyone taught at one in the past.
how is it?
are the kids generally smart, motivated? any major discipline problems? |

| I do. Its pretty good and less than 20 hours teaching a week. There are only around 30 FHS's in Korea so they're pretty elite places. The students generally have a really high level and are willing to learn/make an affort. Many want to study abroad. Any disipline problems and you can threaten them with the lowest grade in the class which usually shuts them up. I worked in a Hagwon before and it is miles better at the FHS. Less stress, less work, better pay, more time for prep etc. so you can actually teach properly. |

There is a prize (candy) for any student who finds the 'intentional' mistakes in my handouts/PPT presentations. |

Not at all. I usually thank them, change it and move on.
I do shake my head in pity though for people who waste their time correcting mistakes on discussion forums. |

also - does any sort of aggregrate list of FLHSs exist online?

Luck of the draw? I used to work at one and did the hiring. Surprisingly, a lot of qualified people pass them over as they don't pay enough. I used to look for people who cared about their job, cared about students and had experience in teaching in Korea. You'd be surprised at the number of nut jobs out there that apply for such jobs.
I am pretty sure each one hires differently. The job was awesome though. It was a real culture shock coming back to Canada and going into a Canadian classroom. The students at a FLHS are tops and very serious about studying. I wish I could say the same about the typical Canadian classroom.
