Can anyone provide 2009 national hols, please? My calendar is all black - and it's not a good time to be asking my wrangler about more holidays.
(I seem to remember taking many more holidays than these).
March:
April:
May: Sat 2nd Buddha's Birthday, Tues 5th = Childrens' Day
June: Sat 6th = Rememberence Day
July: Fri 17 = Law Holiday ?????
August:
Sept:
Oct: Fri 2nd to Sun 4 = Chusok
Nov:
Dec: Fri 25th = Xmas Day
Thanks. |

March 1st, August 15th, Jan 1st and Soelnal.
July 17th is no longer considered a red day for all. I think Banks and government still get it off. |

According to one of my Korean co-workers, many of the national holidays land on weekends so you won't see very many 'red' weekdays this year. Same will probably go for the next year as well. |

Yup, very few holidays this year. The biggest disappointment has to be the Chuseok weekend. 3 days of public holidays...and we get friday off. The real kicker is that October 3rd is a national holiday too, but falls on a Saturday, during Chuseok. So for the 4 national holidays in that week, we get 1 day off.
As a side note, This is one of the major perks of working in a public school: They generally give you extra days off for major public holidays. For example, I will get May 2nd - May 6th off (a friend of mine gets May 1st -May 5th off) and for Chuseok, I'll be off from October 1st - October 5th. There is also an election day in April (April 8th, I believe for Gyeonggi) so we get that off, and of course the school's birthday |

Korean public school teachers enjoy their holidays too so as the above poster suggests there'll be a few compensations.
I got our school calendar this week (PS teachers -- if it hasnt been offered to you, ask!). I'll get a 4-day Childrens Day break & 3 days two weekends later (school b'day). They've added a day to Chuseok as well. Not great, but not feeling too hard done by.
There will be a midweek voting day in april but its just byelections, region-by-region as necessary. Unless your school is an actual polling station, dont count on the day off. |

Maybe, maybe not. I asked about that day today and was told that I wouldn't have to come to school... I was soooo disappointed! |

My hagwon is cutting us some slack. They decided to shut down on next Wednesday to give us an additional holiday. |
