i really want to get away from seoul for a weekend just to relax and think about some stuff. i'm planning to go alone and am just looking for somewhere serene where i can enjoy nature and chill out in a comfortable environment - think quiet fishing trip in a lonely cabin by a lake... i thought about a temple stay, but those tend to be more like tours, which is not really what i'm looking for. they also seem to require reservations in advance while i'm looking to go this weekend. does anyone have any suggestions for where i might go and what i might do to help me get over the seoul city blues?

p.s. good food and cheap accommodations would be a plus.

Robot advises Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangbukdo, but communication is a serious handicap should you not have the Korean linguistics set programmed into your thinking unit. Communication needs involve things like asking, "Where can I go fishing? Where can I find a cheap place to stay nearby? How can I find what I'm looking for?"

I understand you can join a travel club in Seoul and get with groups informally for hiking and other weekend excursions.

If you don't already know, calling 1330 is a priceless tool for intercity bus and train info, help with communication through translation, and any other question you can think of. It's the tourist line where you get excellent English speaking Koreans. A cell phone comes in handy.

Buses from Seoul go express to most parts of the peninsula. Go to Nambu terminal and whisk away to any of the three coasts by noon on any given day.

It's seriously THAT easy.

I think Daechon beach would be nice or Anmyeondo (I've never been there but heard it's nice). They're on the West coast.

I second Anmyeondo. I was just out there a couple weeekends back and its nice and quiet this time of year. There is plenty of beach to walk up and down. There are buses that leave from both Nambu Terminal and Express Bus terminal. Like someone else mentioned called 02-1330 to get exact times of buses.

Have fun and I hope you start getting out of the city more often. There are a lot of gorgeous places here.

thanks for the help guys. i'm hoping i can make it to quite a few places eventually, but right now it looks like anmyeondo's going to be the place to start. any word on accommodations (possibly on/by the beach?) and how much they might run there? what about in daechon?
