still gives them enough time to fire off their nukes in any direction they please before they get wasted,, does america want to take that risk? |
That's why the most important military tech is not the size and power of your response nuke, but your anti missile response tech. I don't know why the US hasn't set up this stuff here in Korea, they could have stuff here that would never allow any nukes to touch down, thus neutralising the threat, and furthering peace talks. I guess there is always the standard artiliary they have and the threat that poses to Seoul.
I honestly don't know why the US doesn't slowly and secretly build up a massive ballistic force close to the DMZ and then suddenly unleash an unholy massive ground to ground and air to ground missile and artilliary attack on all of their delivery installations, and just wipe out the threat completely. Then move deeper into the country, carpet bombing every military installation. Then roll into Pyongyang, take over, start feeding the people, and begin unification. |

kiwi SK does have a system in place to knock down incoming missles. However you fail to realize these things aren't 100%, and they don't have enough to cover say the thousands of missles that the north has pointed at Seoul and other places. Pretty sure they would save our arses for the first hour or two of the war, but after that...
Also let's not mention artillery that would get through that line of defense. |

with that piece of ridiculous propaganda is the part where folks get wasted by hand-held missles coming out of the parking garages. They wouldn't even need a missle to stop the fleeing drivers, as chances are a South Korean has "temporarily" parked his car in front of the exit, trapping everyone in the underground garage. |

If there were anything I could do to help protect my girlfriend and her family (who will not leave), I would stay and do it. Since I have zero military training, however, I'd probably be useless in a fight and as a foreigner I'd be a liability to them and put them at greater risk. I'd probably have to hide or run.
However, any conflict between the North and South would be bloody, but quick. And it's pretty obvious who the winner would be. If I couldn't help in the fight, I'd want to help rebuild in any way I could. |

This makes no sense, Son. If you're just going to run and hide anyway, it may as well be back to the US. Come back with supplies or something, and be useful. As a foreign teacher, there's probably little you could do other than hammer nails, etc. A more substantial contribution would probably be one that you could organize from home. |

I would become a codebreaker for the ROK military... rumour has it the North Koreans use English as their code when transmitting messages. This is a language that few Koreans in the South can make heads or tails of.
Failing that, I would use the psychological warfare tactic known as "classic children's songs".
"Head and shoulders, knees and toes. Eyes, ears, mouth and nose."
"Head and shoulders, knees and toes. Eyes, ears, mouth and nose."

Kiwi,
North Korea can send artillery strikes for about 2-3 hours and then there will no longer be a North Korea military.
And there are no nuclear bombs involved.
Maybe 500,000 South Koreans will die and about 4 million North Koreans. The entire war will last four days. |

Why are you guys even responding to this post? Most of the expats here are here because they couldn't hack it back home home. AND to think they would stay and fight? HAHAHAHAHA Fight for what? |
Fight for what???? The best friends I've ever had. Most have become my "family". Fight with a gun? Not me? Help with the injured and supporting my friends and the troops (Korean...many of my friends are doing their military service now)? Yep. That's my speed. |

There'll be no show down initiated by them as they have nothing to gain. I'd like to see us bomb them to oblivion in a surprise attack though. Then get on with unification. |

Yeah. And I would like to see a few off-target North Korean missiles land on Wellington killing some stupid kiwis like yourself. |

you've been reading too many tom clancy novels, derrek.

There's a lot to be said about testing a missle over that great of a distance. Much less mounting a nuke on top of it and hoping it works. Multiple rocket tests were required for the USA and Russia to get their ICBMs to work and be on-target.
It wasn't done overnight.
And don't forget that many countries who launch stuff into space, and have for years, routinely have problems soon after the rocket leaves the launchpad. Imagine a country who has never even test-launched a three-stage ICBM getting it right the first time.
Just something to think about. |

don't bother responding to ffl007.
it's clearly obvious that he's a disgruntled esl-not teacher, but student.
he's looking for a few kicks and wondering how he could improve his awful english

Congratulations for even knowing that Wellington exists, putting you ahead of most americans.
Are you another one of those ignorant Koreans who thinks Kim Jong Il is not really a bad guy who would bomb Seoul and take this country by force if the US wasn't here? I suppose you believe it's the US that is in the way of reunification with your friendly north korean 'brothers' too eh? |

okay, here's my take:
i have no sympathy for the majority of n koreans at all.
if they're suffering so much, then they should take it upon themselves and start the next revolution.
it has happened to nearly every other pre-communist nations.
so, game over.
nuke kim jong il's home and let them rebuild themselves.
just my humble and conservative opinion... |

AND...and if I were in the ROK army, then i would not hesitate for a moment to put a .22 in a N. Korean's head.
what?...you don't think he would do the same.
what is all this "they r our brothers crud???"
these guys are educated to hate S. Koreans, Americans, and everything else that stands for democracy.
FLAME ON!!!
