|
|
We just moved to Pohang, and I foolishly assumed that the massive power adapter/brick that shipped with my 360 would work on 220V. It doesn't, and blew up in my hands last night. Any idea where to find another one in Pohang? |

just a tip, video games and dvd players are NEVER made for use outside of the country. Notice how the discs are REGION LOCKED to their own countries?
just get the right power brick for your system(220,175,150) When was your xbox 360 made? |

I'm well aware of region locking, but that doesn't have anything to do with power supply. Just like my laptop power brick has a built in voltage adapter, I assumed the xbox one was similar.
My xbox was built last summer. I could get one on ebay and have someone back home send it to me, but I was hoping to just find one locally. We've only been here for a few days, so I'm not sure if Pohang has an electronics district or shopping area (we definitely found the hardware supply store street today). |

if a video game console was region locked(meaning it cannot play discs from other regions or does microsoft want you to) what would make you think they would manufacture power brick that can be used in a foreign country? |

My thought was that the connector from the brick to the xbox would be uniform. I certainly could be wrong, but I would be surprised if MS made it different from location to location. In fact, I would be surprised if the power brick looks any different; it would only need to handle a different voltage.
Anyways, my original question still stands. Where in Pohang could I look to buy something like this, or any other electronic items for that matter? |

My husband did the exact same thing when we got here. He was unable to find a way to replace it in Korea, though he did hear of an electronics area (in Yongsan?) that might have what you're looking for. But, I don't know how close that would be to you, or if they'd even have it. We ended up ordering one and having it sent to my mom in the US, who then sent it on to us along with some other things we forgot. I think he got it for $40 shipped, which wasn't too bad. Just waiting for it to get here was the hardest part. It's a good thing I have computer games to play because I *still* haven't been able to pry him away from the 360.
And honestly, I think you might be able to just replace the brick (and keep the cords) so that could save you a few $$ depending on where you get it. I'm not 100% positive about that, but it seems logical to me. We did find places online where you could order just the brick, but we opted to get the whole thing (cords and all) just to be safe. Good luck! |

Thanks for that. I have checked ebay, and have sent a question to one of the sellers in Hong Kong asking about shipping directly here. This will probably be my best bet, and if not, I'll do the ship-to-Korea-via-the-US method.
Any current or former Pohangers that read this, I would still like to know if there are any good electronics retailers in town. I need some A/V cables and whatnot as well, but haven't found any good stores in the few days we've been here. Thx! |

You could try play-asia.com
Or you could go to one of the little mom and pop computer electronic repair shops, assuming you have them, and see if they are willing to hodge podge something together for you. |

You can buy one direct from M$
Or get one from Ebay.
Not a big deal |

Ebay shipped here direct was $47. I had to keep bugging them about mailing it directly here, rather than to my Paypal address, so hopefully it ends up here. |
