That should have said "thinly" and statistics don't explain the "Kimberly" bullshit or the constant talk about public urination. I post on a forum where an incident like the one in General about the little boy peeing would never be repeated because NOBODY CARES.

When you come from a country where NOBODY WOULD DARE CONSIDER asking for a bottle so her little emperor could pee this very second instead of going to the public toilets that are 50 metres away it's kind of hard not to take note of it.

Racisit? No.

YES IT IS! Spade is a racist term for a black person! Are you really that blinded by your hate for non-whites that you didn't see that one coming?

The expression in English dates back to 1542. It is derived from a Greek expression that dates from the first century BC. Rolling Eyes

Thank you, Oxford. And I suppose the N word is okay because it was never initially intended to be used in a derogatory manner, and its root word just means black?

Here you are talking about something you detest when others mention it. Rolling Eyes

I've read your other posts on this thread and I think you should calm down! And, I know that you are by no means an angel. You break the rules on Daves, I should know as a receiver of at least one of your attacks.

You did not know the different uses of 'spade' and since other posters have used the term 'Kimberly' you assume that they know it's supposedly a racist term. Rolling Eyes

I've noticed how others have used it but I never have, in fact I didn't know the meaning until the thread supposedly explained it. Don't you think others could have used it not knowing its meaning as you did with 'spade?'

Just how many racists are there here on Daves, can you give us your best guess? If it bothers you so much why don't you call those that you believe are racists out?

I don't have to. They prove it time and time again very well by themselves. And what you've just done is defend them.

We need some sort of invesigation to expose all the racist here on Dave's. Perhaps a committe off sorts that can look into this sort of thing. Because Dave's is quite special. Not at all like every other message board out there. In no way is the simple fact that you're here more often leading you to believe it is more negative than other message boards.

My skin is as thick as anyone's when it comes to insulting me, but the ignorant Korea-bashing that happens on this site would get any of you a summary beat-down if you ever talked like that in real life. Personal insults against me don't offend me, but ignorance insults you.

Dave's is negative and full of haters and not enough women but:

1. It helps beat boredom.
2. Useful information can be found.
3. It's good for a laugh.
4. If you are a negative person and have no one to be negative to then Dave's is the place.
5. But mainly #1.

I have had an overall neutral experience on dave's. For the most part, people enjoy taking cheap shots at other; I too have partaken in such "pleasures" in the past. However, if you can filter through the crap, there are posters that are sincere and offer good advice, DDeubel, Demophone, Superhero, Yu Bum Suk, Chickenlover, and a few others that escape me for the moment are among the helpful posters here.

On the other hand, there are others that use dave's as their outlet, their release have you. As long as they aren't doing so in public (i.e. on the streets of Korea), why not here on an anonymous board? To each his own; none of us are perfect.

From my experience the Job related forum is helpful and the general discussion is flame bait.

this thread is the only negative one that is active. the other threads are devastatingly named: 'key money, housing allowance ps high school' or
'EPIK'ers. Are you being sent to English Villages to work?'

Yeah sometimes you get into that whole Kimberly thing, but in general people are just sharing advice or asking questions. I think if you have a problem you should just start lots of culturally insensitve posts about the west.

As I had no idea that spade was used in the way you said, I did some research. It apperad that in the 1950's and 1960's in Southern USA states such as Mississippi this was the case. However, please keep in mind that members at this cafe come from at least 7 different countries and represent many different regions, dialects, and age groups. I asked my fiancee. who is from South Africa, 100% African about this. She, as I, only knew it as: (a) in the expression in the post here, (b) a small shovel, and (c) a suit for cards. So, for her it was also "news" that it can mean other things. And, by the way, she received her MA in English Lit. from Oxford.

So, what you need to do now to help us to avoid such problmes in the future is to make a complete list of all words that are racist from every country where English is the official language. Be sure that you make a list that covers all regions, all dialects, and at least the last 100 years. Then, we will have less of a concern about making such a faux pas.

Simply put. I will live with the negative view point because it is one of the few if any substantial place to get up to date info on Korea and the ESL industry.

The other forums I found on Korea where useless as nobody used them, rarely used at all, or worse more negative then eslcafe as the took the tools that even Dave's did not want.

And in continuing your observation that Dave's is negative.

Take you bleeding heart liberal "CAN'T WE JUST ALL GET ALONG" ideals and shove it
