I've been curious about this for quite a while. I've been in Asia over a decade yet still am sometimes scratching my head in disbelief that there are many backwater towns with millions of residents and near zero foreigners. It shouldn't be so surprising anymore with the huge populations and sameness of cities. I'd like to know where outside Asia can you find a really homogeneous city with at least a million residents. I'm talking about the ones where the locals are doing double and triple takes, having accidents, checking their glasses, and looking at their prescriptions for hallucinatory side effects whenever they encounter that specimen known as somebody from the outside world. I haven't been to the Middle East. Maybe there are cities there like this? Still technically Asia, but, you know. Africa, Europe, Latin America? I don't know. It seems to me Asians are the champions of large small towns.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. Minsk sounds pretty damn white. I wonder if the locals lose consciousness though when they see blacks or Asians.

Of course, the people over on that site prefer homogeneity, and look at Asian cities with a bit of jealousy at how racially homogeneous they are.

No doubt many would like an entire world where theirs was the only race.

Wouldn't it be lovely if we were all clones?

I've been stared at (in disbelief) in darkest Africa and in the Amazon - but I have to say, I've never been stared at so much as in that Jewel of the Orient - Pohang.

And what's up with the staring at Incheon INTERNATIONAL Airport?

If you think it's bad here, try China.

That's part of the reason I started the thread. Heard it said before that India can be unreal too. The two biggest populations, where less than five million people is just another town.

That's not what they generally want. To the contrary, they want significant cultural and racial differences. What they oppose: forced integration; mega states; globalization; multi-culturalism; etc., indeed because these things homogenize the world.

But yeah, they've got their share of white supremecists too.

No, we're talking about Stormfront. They all want a world where there was one race.

Jaj, there'd be plenty of those cities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Outside of a few countries (outside of South Africa, but also in Zimbabwe, Namiba, and Kenya to a lesser degree) practically the entire population is African by race.

Now in a place like Nigeria, with an estimated 50,000 "foriegners" would be a perfect example. I'd imagine that practically all of those foreigners are in either Lagos (business and economic centre) Abuja (capital, so lots of NGOs, diplomats and some corporate types) and Port Harcourt (where all the oil is). That leaves another 16 cities with a population of 500,000 or more. I'll bet you'd be a rare specimen in atleast some of those Smile

(FYI, for foriegners, I used wikipedia and it mentions "people of non-african origin" or similar, obviously this doesn't include other Africans. However it's interesting to note, that 50,000 out of Nigeria's 150mill population is proportionatly equal to the number of English teachers in Korea 'Wink

Thought Africa might be a good example. I'd be curious to hear stories from foreigners visiting such cities of over a million and getting the reactions many of us know quite well.
