St. Patrick's day is just a drinking holiday where people wear green???? How dare you, He is the patron saint of our fine country...we worship him like buddhists worship buddha, koreans worship park ji sung, Chinese worship yao ming and gingers worship chuck norris.
I feel disgusted that you think irish people only drink and wear green on st. patrick's day. We look forward to the 17th of march all year. It's our favourite day of the year, we get a day with no work and we don't just celebrate this fine day by getting drunk as hell and wearing green, some peopl even celebrate with parades, festivities, or if you're a student in belfast and live near the holylands, getting into riots with the police and wrecking the place in the afternoon. |
Come on...half of you get a day without work seven days a week (-:
Where's Ireland anyway? In the southern part of the England, right? Ahh, wait, I'll ask me brother in law who works at a Microsoft call "centre" in the Ireland.
He's a fine gentleman from India who got the job because the rest of the world could understand his phone English-e better than the English-e of those poor Irish neighborhood boys who couldn't get the job.
They'll get the last laugh, those neighborhood boys will. By God, they'll blow 'em up and shag his sacred cow, they will.

stick to posts about eating dog, fasting and what make-up to use to reduce your shiny face. really, this one is not your cup of tea.
it's a running, semi-joke.... more fun than not... less serious than serious... certainly not something you can wrap your small head around.... better for ya to give advice to the new lasses looking for places to purchase their favorite fragrances and douches.
but, if you insist on sticking around, join in and have fun.
while you're here, can you tell me the best clubs in Hongdae? lol.... Can I get ecstacy in Itaweon? Where's the latest trance DJ playin? |

Ireland is that beautiful country, slightly to the east of that country hanging out of canada's ass like a big piece of crap..what is its name again...oh yeah the good old u.s. of a!
you do realise up until the current fu,c,k up in the economy Ireland had 0% umemployment (the figures don't count for people who are sick, depressed or unfit to work) we actually had more job than people willing to do them.
Didn't know microsoft had a call centre here, I know their main european operational base etc is here but didn't know they had a call centre....some irish people work in call centres but most opt not to do it because they generally pay only a little over the minimum wage, which in Ireland is .75 an hour (11.80 approx) considering the minimum wage in the U.S is $6.75, and not applied by a lot of states, (according to the great source that is wikipedia, the minimum wage in kansas is $2.65) one would think microsoft would move back to its own country, paying third world wages and hire some yanks instead of paying the higher wage here |

the US sends jobs overseas for cheap labor. Ireland happened to be the Mexico of Europe in the 90's... MS paid a little more for your labor because the laborers spraken the english-e and the gov't was stable.
Do you think a US company would put jobs in Ireland for any other reason? seriously?
As for your "irish" GF, candy.. . give me a break. you'll be farming in Ireland, living off of 'ma" and she'll be teaching in Korea in ten years' time. Don't kid yourself, kid. |

once again, your post shows that your education could only have come from the back of a box of cornflakes.....it wasn't for the cheap labour, we were always expensive enough, they came because of the low corporation taxes, and the grants they got from the government for starting the business in ireland.
sorry to bust your bubble but i'm not a farmer & i have never done anything to do with farming......or manual labour for that matter...these hands are too soft and pretty to be ruined by acting like i'm one of the lower classes and actually working for it.
oh and why is irish in quotation marks, are you suggesting she isn't irish or what? |

I don't have any stake in the USA v. Ireland pissing match here.
But wasn't comparative advantage a significant factor in the rise of the Irish Tiger? Also, allowing US companies access to the EU market while having a more competitive business environment was a huge factor. |

yes, the comparative advantage was the ability for organisations to save hundreds of millions of dollars on what they would have been paying in most other countries in Europe on tax and set up costs. Ireland offered and still offers lower corporation taxes than most, if not all of the advanced countries in europe, in fact one of the main reasons we voted no to the lisbon treaty was beacuse the irish government would not be allowed to offer these corporation tax incentives anymore as they would have to follow the set e.u guidlines.
We are also located in a good geographic area to the states, first country between them and the rest of europe so it was easy for them to get here and use it as their main base. |

It was a boom, largely due to banks expanding credit. Also involved was transfers from the EU to Ireland. Ireland is going to suffer severely in the bust.
How about all those illegal Irish immigrants in the US? Yes, I'm serious, and not using past-tense.

NEWSFLASH: Ireland is suffering, two of our main banks have been nationalised, dell have moved a sh!t load of jobs away from here and over to poland because they got offered many many millions to do so (actually so much that it afforded them to pay the redundancies of all their workers and still make a profit)
50 thousand, I'm not surprised, I could name at least 150 people over there illegally, about 100 of them went during the bad times, another 50 or so through the good times, not too many of them are heading there now, it's too easy for people in their mid 20's to get a travel and work visa in oz for a year and try to hide out until the country gets back up from the gutter again. |
