Working for SMOE today is usually a wonderful day, pay day. So I went to collect my payslip today and there is a 'yonmal jongsan' column with 505,490 won in tax taken out on top of the normal tax. I asked her and she said this is a one time each year tax. I have lived here for 5 years and paid tax every year and never had a one time add on tax. Any info on what this is about???

That translates to "year end adjustment"...maybe they were off on some of their calculations during the year? I would do some more asking around...that's a hefty chunk of change.

I had the exact same situation last month with SMOE, and the same the year before. The only difference was that in my first year I got money back becuase they had been charging too much. This year I got almost 500,000 taken off. Sucks but it's legit.

I was told there would be about 80,000 won deducted from my check this month for annual taxes. I'm gong to request a copy of the tax return.
